NASS begins correction of electoral bill rejected by Buhari (Punch)
The National Assembly has begun work on the Electoral Act 2010 Amendment Bill which President Muhammadu Buhari rejected and sent back to the legislature over drafting issues. The joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill announced in Abuja on Monday that the panel was now considering the issues raised by the President for which he withdrew assent to the legislation. The Kano State Government has confirmed the death of 31 people and destruction of more than 10,000 houses during the recent flood disaster in 15 Local Government Areas of the state. Philippine rescuers on Monday searched desperately for dozens feared buried under a landslide unleashed by Typhoon Mangkhut, which also left a trail of destruction in Hong Kong and saw millions evacuated in southern China. The confirmed death toll across the northern Philippines, where the main island of Luzon was mauled by fierce winds and rain, reached 65 and was expected to rise further given the number of missing. CBN lures investors with higher treasury bills yields (ThisDay)
As investors’ appetite for longer tenor treasury bills remained strong with demands for higher rates at last week’s auction, amid fears of capital flight ahead of the 2019 general election, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in an apparent move to attract investors in the fixed income market, over-allotted the 364-day bill with yield at 15.60 per cent, up from 15 per cent previously. Man, 35, docked for allegedly raping 67-year-old woman (Vanguard)
A 35-year-old man, Samuel Gbodogbe, was on Monday brought before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly raping a 67-year-old woman, Mrs Ayinke Ogunade. 15-year-old boy drowns in Kano pond (Punch)
A 15-year-old boy, Mohammed Basa, drowned while bathing in a pond at Kuka Bulukiya Community in the Dala Local Government Area of Kano State. The Spokesman for the Kano State Fire Service, Mr Saidu Mohammed, revealed the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Monday.
