A hoodlum, identified simply as Adedeji, aka Skye, has allegedly shot a lady, Halimat Abowaba, to death on Abeokuta Street, behind the Agege Stadium, in the Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Adedeji, alongside other hoodlums, were celebrating the victory of a political party on Abeokuta Street when he suddenly brought out a gun and started shooting indiscriminately.
In the process, one of the stray bullets reportedly hit Abowaba, who was in front of her mother’s drinking joint on Abeokuta Street. Read more

As the scarcity of cash continues to bite harder, experts have warned that the national economy will suffer the long-term negative effects if nothing is done to address the situation urgently.
Following the redesign of the national currency and the withdrawal of the old currency notes, there has been scarcity of cash running into two months. The scarcity has forced many small businesses, which depend on cash transactions, to shut down while citizens are faced with difficulty accessing cash for their daily expenses.
Director of the Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE), Dr. Muda Yusuf, in an interview with The Guardian yesterday, said the cash crunch is slowing down economic activities and taking a heavy toll on small businesses. Read more

Lagos adopts online payment, registration into model colleges (Nation)
The Lagos State Government has adopted an online payment model for registration and screening tests in its model colleges and upgraded Junior Secondary Schools.
In a statement by the Director, Lagos State Examination Board, Mr. Orunsolu Adebayo.
He stated that the registration, which has already started, will end on May 5, adding that the development was in line with the state government’s policy to ensure seamless payment and access to its services. Read more

Reps majority leader, Doguwa, remanded in prison (Vanguard)
A Senior Magistrate Court, sitting in Kano, yesterday remanded the Majority Leader, House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, in prison, after he was arraigned on five-count charge bothering on criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, unlawful possession of firearms, mischief and incitement of public disturbance.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Ibrahim Mansur Yola, remanded the House leader in prison till March 7, 2023, when the case comes up.

Malaysian man loses RM1m in life savings in 14-second scam call (Mashable)
All it took was 14 seconds for a Malaysian man to lose his savings of RM1 million (US$223,539).
The 39-year-old man, identified as Lee by the Borneo Post Online, said he had received a call from someone claiming that they were from Malaysian courier service provider, Poslaju.
14 seconds is all it took.
Sensing something amiss, Lee – who hails from Kuching, Sarawak – hung up. Out of curiosity, he checked his bank account. That was when he noticed that a bank withdrawal of RM1 million had been made. Lee said he didn’t receive nor provide any authorization.
Worried, he quickly called the bank and made a police report. Following this, he sought help from the Democratic Action Party (DAP). Read more

The body of a baby has been found after an urgent hunt for Constance Marten and Mark Gordon’s child.
Speaking at a press conference at Sussex Police HQ, Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said: ‘It is my very sad duty to update this afternoon, police officers searching a wooded area close to where Constance and Mark Gordon were arrested, discovered the remains of a baby.

BBC Breakfast is to relaunch the children’s writing competition 500 Words, three years after it was dropped from Radio 2.
First launched by Chris Evans on Radio 2’s breakfast show in 2011, the popular UK-wide competition continued with his successor Zoe Ball until 2020.
It will return this September, supported again by the Queen Consort.

Station master arrested over deadly Greece train collision that has killed dozens (ABC)
A man has been arrested over the collision of a passenger and a freight train in central Greece that has killed at least 43 people and injured dozens, the government and police sources say.
The 59-year-old station master of a train station in the city of Larissa testified before a prosecutor and was arrested, a government official said.

Osimhen almost lost his sight – Italian surgeon (Punch)
According to Dr. Gianpaolo Tartaro, the plastic surgeon who operated on Victor Osimhen’s face when he suffered a facial injury in November 2021, the Nigeria international almost lost his eyes, after the Nigeria international was hurt in a clash of heads with Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar in Napoli’s 3-2 defeat at the San Siro.
Osimhen required surgery, which involved placing six plaques and 18 screws on his face after a scan revealed the Napoli star forward had suffered multiple fractures to the cheekbone and orbital bone.
The former Lille forward was sidelined for over two months and has played with a protective mask ever since. Read more
