Lagos housewife packages narcotics in fetish bowls, arrested (Punch)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday said its operatives arrested a 27-year-old drug queen, Opoola Mujidat, for planting drugs concealed in fetish bowls containing “scary native black soap and sponge” on two Oman-bound male passengers at the departure hall of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
The passengers, Raji Kazeem and Akinbobola Omoniyi, were reportedly travelling together to Oman on an Ethiopian Airline flight on Monday, July 11, when they were intercepted by NDLEA operatives at the airport.
The spokesman for the agency, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, said, “A search of their luggage revealed wraps of cannabis sativa hidden in bowls of native black soap and sponge packed into a bag containing food items, which Kazeem was carrying.”
The statement noted that both Kazeem and Omoniyi immediately alerted the anti-narcotic officers that Mujidat, who was still within the vicinity, gave the bag containing the illicit substance to them at the airport and she was promptly arrested. Read more
Ponzi scheme operator arraigned for defrauding profs, colonel (Punch)
The police on Monday arraigned a Ponzi scheme operator, Michael Diongoli, before a Federal High Court in Lagos State for allegedly defrauding a retired Army colonel, two professors, a co-operative society, among others of the sum of N1, 286, 580, 656.
Diongoli is facing eight counts of conspiracy, obtained by false pretences and fraud.
The defendant was arraigned alongside his two firms, UK-Don Group and UK-Dion Investment Limited before Justice Lewis-Allagoa.
He was accused of defrauding his victims, under false pretence of multiple returns on investment within the period of six months to one year. Read more
Police arraign man over theft of N8.3m truck (Punch)
A 31-year-old man, Paul Ilesomi, who allegedly stole a truck valued at N8,350,000, has been arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate’s Court sitting at Ajegunle.
The defendant is facing two counts bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Ingobo Emby, told the court that the defendant and one other at large conspired to commit the offences.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are contrary to sections 411 and 280 and punishable under sections 412 and 287 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. Read more
Masked men, task force arrest Okada riders, passengers (Punch)
Some masked men and officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, aka Task Force, on Tuesday, raided commercial motorcyclists at Berger Bus Stop, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro noted that the masked men pushed down the Okada riders from their bikes at the area where they clustered to pick passengers.
Our correspondents, who witnessed the exercise, observed that the operatives came in two vans and whisked away the alleged offenders in three Toyota Hiace buses.

Lagos policemen on illegal duty handcuff, brutalise PUNCHman (Punch)
Some bribe-seeking policemen on illegal duty at Berger Bus-Stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday brutalised a reporter with The PUNCH, Matthew Agbaje.
Agbaje was handcuffed to a commercial bus as he was punched and slapped for attempting to expose the cops.
The reporter had watched as a bus driver was dragged by the five-man team after he (driver) protested attempts to impound his vehicle over an alleged offence.
One of the policemen, who noticed the journalist recording the incident with his mobile phone, pushed him into a commercial bus which they were using for the operation. Read more
Police arrest 12 over Lagos clash, burning of hotel, shops (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 12 suspects in connection with a clash at Oyingbo Market, in the Ebute Metta area of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to our correspondent on Monday.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the fight, which occurred on Saturday and involved two rival cults, was over the control of ticketing fees collected from motorcyclists and bus drivers in the community.
The clash was said to have led to the death of a resident, while a popular hotel in the area was burnt along with some shops and vehicles. Read more
Police arraign man for alleged N8.5m land fraud (Punch)
A 50-year-old man, Tunde Alabi, was on Wednesday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Olatunbosun Adeola of the Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over an alleged land fraud of N8.5m.
Alabi is facing four counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining under false pretences, entry by violence and stealing.
The offences contravened sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised) and Section 3 of the Property Protection Law of Lagos State, 2016.

6 arrested as Lagos police battle hotel robbers (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six suspects who allegedly participated in an attack on the Mambillah Hotel at Owutu, in the Ikorodu area of the state.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the suspects, on May 11, robbed lodgers and workers and shot a security guard to death.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, said the seventh suspect, one Taye, died during an exchange of gunfire with the police.
He said the arrest of the suspects followed a discreet investigation ordered and monitored by the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi. Read more
Family petitions Lagos CP over alleged abuse of office by Divisional Officer (Independent)
Members of the Ewade Ruling House, Igbooye, have urged the Lagos State Commissioner of Police (CP), Abiodun Alabi, to investigate the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Noforija, CSP Gregory Ikpehia, over alleged conspiracy with thugs and hoodlums to avoid breakdown of law and order in the community.
The family’s petition was contained in a letter dated July 14 and entitled, “Save Our Soul, Abuse of Office, Criminal Conspiracy and Perversion of Justice by CSP Gregory Ikpehia, DPO of Noforija Police Station, Eredo-Epe, Against the Head and Principal Members of Ewade Ruling House, Igbooye-Epe.” Read more
Baba Ijesha jailed 16 years for sexual assault (Independent)
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Domestic Violence Sexual and Special Offences Court, Ikeja, on Thursday sentenced Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, otherwise known as Baba Ijesha to 16 years imprisonment over sexual assault.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Taiwo sentenced him after he was found guilty of four-count out of six-count charge brought against him by the Lagos State government.
The convict was sentenced to five years imprisonment for count two, three years for count three, five years for Count 4 and three years for count five.

Lagos police arrest 2 bridge railings vandals (Guardian)
Operatives of Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), yesterday, at about 3:00 a.m. arrested two suspected vandals with a pile of already cut railings and a hacksaw on the overhead bridge at the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos.
The suspects are 22-year-old Abdullateef Abdulrahim and 16-year-old Aliyu Lawan. The Commander of RRS, Olayinka Egbeyemi, had in response to credible intelligence on crime in the area directed an operation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
According to the State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Yaba, for further investigation to detect and crush the criminal network behind the incessant destruction of infrastructure and their eventual prosecution.
Also, CP Alabi has directed the commencement of the enforcement of the total ban on the use of Police SPY number plates by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, within Lagos State. Read more
Woman reports at Ikeja police, alleges threat to life (Guardian)
A woman leader of All Progressive Congress (APC), in Ikorodu area of Lagos, Mrs. Temitope Elizabeth Abolarin, has cried out to Lagos State Police Command over alleged threat to her life and family by gunmen in her Lagos residence.
The mother of two, who is now in hiding, said her family also came under physical assault following her participation and support for an APC candidate, who contested a seat in Lagos State House of Assembly.
She said: “I am one of the staunch supporters of Mr. Gbolahan Ogunleye, who contested for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, under APC. I supported the ideals and philosophy of the party, and participated in sensitising women in the area on good governance, voting for their conscience and the future of their children.
“Following my political activism, some people, who are not comfortable with that, have been threatening me and my family. Read more
