Lagos-Ibadan: LASTMA announces road closure at Yaba level crossing (Nation)
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Wednesday announced the closure of railway level crossing at Yaba following the ongoing construction of Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line.
According to a travel advisory made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos by Spokesman for LASTMA, Mr Olumide Filade, the level crossing will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday to 1: 00 a.m on Thursday.
The authority advised motorists to use alternative routes.
“As a result of the ongoing track laying for the Lagos-Ibadan Rail Project, there will be road closure of Railway Level Crossing at Yaba from 8 pm on Wednesday (16/10/2019) to 1 am on Thursday (17/10/2019). Read more
Extra-judicial killing: Lagos set to prosecute 4 police officers (PMNews)
The Lagos State Government says it will prosecute four police officers indicted in an alleged extra-judicial killing of two people in Lagos.
The families of late Segun Sholaja and Ogheneovo Ebobo had petitioned the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo over what they described as travesty of justice.
The two families had cried out to the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu to launch an independent probe into the killings of their children by the police, as well as appealed to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to look into the complicity of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in the matter. FG to complete Ogoni cleanup in 2024 with $1bn ― NOSDRA DG (Tribune)
Director-General, National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Mr Musa Idris on Wednesday disclosed that 21 contractors were currently working to clean up Ogoniland and that the exercise will be completed in 2024.
He also lamented activities of crude oil thieves and illegal crude refining as they are responsible for 70 per cent of oil spillage.
At a media interaction on activities of NOSDRA in Abuja, Idris added that 36 other contractors were currently undergoing procurement processes that will escalate the number of contractors working on the project by the end of 2019 to 57. Read more
Kogi guber election: INEC recruits 81 physically challenged persons as ad hoc staff (Nation)
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that 81 persons with disabilities were among ad hoc staff it had recruited for the Nov. 16 governorship election in Kogi State.
Alhaji Ahmed Biambo, Director, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC office, Lokoja, disclosed this on Wednesday on the sideline of a one- day sensitisation forum organised by the commission for persons living with disabilities.
Biambo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the 81 physically challenged persons were recruited to work as Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers. Read more

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr. Adedamola Kuti, on Wednesday said that the Federal Government was committed to ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads in the state.
Kuti told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that work was ongoing on Lagos federal roads, adding that contractors handling the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway project would soon return to the site.

Rivers residents deplore roads as Wike raises maintenance agency (Guardian)
Residents have deplored the deplorable state of roads in Rivers made worse by flooding, describing driving as hellish in the state. They lament that some of the highways that got facelift had degenerated barely two months after, urging the state government to embark on a comprehensive road maintenance and construction of drainages to reduce pressure on the facilities.
This comes as Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday inaugurated the State Road Maintenance Agency with a charge to make the infrastructure motorable. He said: “Settle down and draw out a comprehensive work plan on how to address the potholes on some of the roads in Port Harcourt and its environs.

Wayne S. Juhlin, of Venice, called cops to report that he killed his 80-year-old wife at their residence late Monday after deciding to “end her life” since she was suffering from dementia, Venice police announced Tuesday.
