Lagos lawyer accuses judiciary of grabbing landed property (Punch)
Alegal practitioner, Omodele Ibrahim, has accused the Lagos State Government of encroaching on his plot of land.
He said the land, situated at the Lanre Razak Housing Estate, Itamarun, Epe, was sold to him by the late Chief Lanre Razak, a former Chairman of the Epe Local Government Area, who established the private housing estate.
Ibrahim, who claimed to have fenced the land, alleged that the entrance to the property was forced open twice by intruders, adding that some mobile officers were also drafted there by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice.
He said, “Sometime in November 2021, I was out of the country when a neighbour living on the estate called to tell me that there were intruders on my land. Immediately, I called a relative of mine to go there and get them out and get a new padlock to lock the gate. Read more
Ekweremadu to spend Christmas, New Year in prison as court fixes jan 31 for trial (DailyTrust)
The Central Criminal Court in London, the United Kingdom, has adjourned the trial of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, from May 2023 to January 31, 2023.
The Old Bailey agreed that arguments will be heard on the 16th or 19th of December 2022 before the commencement of the trial in January.
Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were arrested on June 23 and charged with conspiracy to trafficking a person for organ harvesting in violation of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. Read more
MC Oluomo celebrates son on graduation day (Vanguard)
The Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, has celebrated his son on his graduation from school.
In a post on Instagram on Monday, Mc Oluomo mentioned that his son, Idowu Akinsanya has just received his first degree in International Relations from the faculty of social sciences at the ESGT University Dream Campus in the Benin Republic.

2023: Ibeju Lekki monarch vows to mobilise subjects for APC candidates (Independent)
The newly installed monarch of Lakowe Town in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Oba Hakeem Olusegun Ojomu, the Onilakowe of Lakowe, has vowed to bring all sons and daughters of Lakowe Town together for peace and progress of the kingdom.
He also promised to deliver the votes of the people of Lakowe Town and its environs for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.
Ojomu disclosed this after he was installed and presented with the staff of office by the Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Bolaji Roberts.

Sack: Travellers, passport holders laud CG of NIS (Guardian)
The sack of eight officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) over extortion has continued to attract accolades to the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (CGIS), Mr Idris Jere, for upholding justice.
Some travellers and passport holders who commended the CGIS on the punitive meted out to the erring members of NIS told the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Lagos on Monday that it had long been expected.
NAN reports that on Nov. 4, a statement signed by Mr Kenneth Kure, a Chief Superintendent of Immigration and in the Public Relations Unit of the NIS, broke the news announcing the sack of the eight personnel.
The statement also stated that 100 personnel attached to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport ( MMIA) were redeployed. Read more
Anxiety as ASUU NEC meets over half-salary payment (Vanguard)
Tension has enveloped the university community as executive members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, led by its president, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, have begun meeting to deliberate on the half salaries paid members by the federal government, last week.
The meeting which is currently ongoing at the union’s headquarters, located at the Permanent Site of the University of Abuja campus, would deliberate on the government’s action and possibly explore response options to the development.
There are indications that members of the body at the meeting, cutting across various zones of the country may vote for declaration of sit-at- home by lecturers in protest against the government’s action.
Already,some branches of ASUU have resolved that members will stay at home until the government pays salaries of members it withheld following the recent 8-month old strike by the action. Read more

It warned that it is a criminal offence for anyone to indulge in such, saying the government was committed to protect its precious stones and make fortunes out of them.
Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade spoke in Lagos at the Gold and Gemstones conference and exhibition organised by the state chapter of Women in Mining (WiMin) with the theme, “Unveiling Nigerian Gold and Gems to the World.”
According to Future Market Insights, the global gemstone market is currently worth $30.8 billion and is projected to hit $53.1 billion by 2032. Read more
2023: CJN swears in Election Petition Tribunal members (Channels)
The Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola has sworn in members of the Election Petition Tribunal for the 2023 general elections.
The event took place on Monday at the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja, the country’s political capital.
Having administered the oath of office on the members of the Tribunal, the CJN urged the judicial officers not to treat their assignments with levity, warning that he will not tolerate any form of judicial recklessness.
The exercise kicked off a four-day capacity workshop for the justices and members of the Tribunal to end on Thursday. Read more

Jimmy Kimmel back as Oscars host for 3rd time (RTE)
Talk show presenter Jimmy Kimmel will return as the host of the Oscars in 2023, it has been announced.
The 95th Academy Awards will be Kimmel’s third time as host. He previously hosted in 2017 and 2018.
Announcing Kimmel’s return, the producers of the show, Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, said: “We’re super thrilled to have Jimmy score his hat trick on this global stage. We know he will be funny and ready for anything!”

The Dwayne Johnson reteam with Jumanji franchise filmmaker Jake Kasdan, previously titled Red One at Prime Video, has started production, and Oscar winner J.K. Simmons and Emmy nominee Bonnie Hunt have boarded respectively as Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The four-quadrant holiday family film, which has plans to be an extensive franchise film with merchandising throughout the Amazon universe, boasts a cast that includes Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Wesley Kimmel. The screenplay by Fast & Furious scribe and producer Chris Morgan is based on an original story by Seven Bucks President of Production Hiram Garcia. Amazon Studios snapped up the project in a competitive bidding war. The project will stream in more than 240 countries and territories.

Rapper Hurricane G has died at the age of 52, with the world of hip hop paying tribute to the veteran after friends confirmed her death.

Syria war: White Helmets accuse Russia over deadly strikes on camps (BBC)
First responders have accused Syria’s military and its ally Russia of a “massacre”, after nine civilians were reportedly killed in strikes on camps in the opposition-held north-west.
The White Helmets said rockets loaded with cluster bombs hit camps for the displaced in Idlib province on Sunday.
Three children and a woman were among the dead, the organisation added.
A Russian military official said Syrian warplanes struck a jihadist group’s drone facility and training camp. Read more
Referee issues 10 red cards in fiery Cup final match (Guardian)
Qatar World Cup-bound referee Facundo Tello dished out 10 red cards in Argentina’s Champions Trophy final match on Sunday.
This was after Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz sparked a melee in front of the Boca Juniors fans with his match-winning goal celebration.
With the teams level at 1-1 in the final minutes of extra time, Alcaraz directed a header into the corner of the net to win it for Racing Club.
However, his extended celebration in front of the opposition’s fans infuriated the Boca Juniors players, with video showing them grabbing Alcaraz by the ear and throwing a ball at him.
Tello, who will be one of the officials at the World Cup in Qatar, sent Alcaraz off and dished out five red cards to Boca Juniors players after the scuffles. Read more
Confed Cup: Rivers, Plateau storm Libya (Punch)
Nigeria’s representatives in the CAF Confederations Cup, Rivers United and Plateau United have hit Libya for the second legs of their playoffs against Al Nasr Benghazi and Al Akhdar, The PUNCH reports.
NPFL Champions, Rivers United departed via Cairo, Egypt, and connected another flight to Libya’s second most populous city Benghazi, where their opponents are based.

Liverpool owners FSG open to putting club up for sale – sources (ESPN)
Liverpool ‘s owners, the Boston-based Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are prepared to sell their controlling stake in the club, sources have told ESPN, 12 years after buying the six-time Champions League winners for just £300 million.
As first reported by The Athletic, FSG have enlisted investment banks Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley to assist in the process of finding a potential buyer. Sources familiar with the situation have told ESPN that an Information Memorandum detailing the possible sale was sent to potential investors last month.
Sources also added that while FSG are inviting offers and prepared to offload their complete holding in the club, the Liverpool owners are also ready to consider offers of outside investment.
According to sources, Liverpool’s valuation could exceed £4 billion due to the club’s trophy-winning history, global fan base and commercial value. Read more

Just a week after Halloween, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers continued their scary start to the season, losing 114-100 to a hot Cleveland Cavaliers team and falling to 2-7 on the year.
Thanks to a dominant backcourt performance led by Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland – who combined for 57 points – the Cavs won their eighth straight game and remained second in the Eastern Conference.
Mitchell, who added five rebounds to his game-high 33 points, alluded to playing against James postgame: “When the greatest are on the floor, you just go out there and try to find a way to compete and get a win. We came out there and were just trying to do what we’ve been doing, and fortunately, it was against Bron.”
