Lagos LCDA sells Sallah rams at N75k subsidised price (Guardian)
The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaq Olusola Ajala, has said the Councilโs decision to sell Sallah Rams at heavily subsidised rates is rooted in a desire to support Muslim residents in fulfilling their religious obligations during Eid el-Kabir, while also demonstrating the tangible benefits of democratic governance.
Ajala made this known during the 8th edition of the Councilโs annual subsidised Sallah Ram distribution, which was held at the Council Secretariat on Town Planning Way, Ilupeju, Lagos.
Over 1,000 healthy Rams were offered at a discounted price of โฆ75,000 each, despite similar livestock selling for over โฆ200,000 in open markets. The initiative, according to Ajala, is designed to ease the financial burden on Muslim families during the festive period. Read more
JUSUN suspends nationwide strike (Leadership)
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has suspended its nationwide strike which began on Monday.
This suspension was announced in a communiquรฉ issued on Tuesday, following a crucial meeting between the unionโs leadership and representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
The meeting, which also involved key stakeholders including the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) resulted in the suspension after prolonged deliberations over JUSUNโs demands. Read more
FG blames climate change, unregulated buildings for Mokwa flood (Channels)
The Federal Government has said that the flood in Mokwa town in Niger State was primarily caused by heavy rainfall due to extreme weather conditions occasioned by climate change, unregulated buildings, construction activities, and poor drainage infrastructure.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof Joseph Utsev, stated this while reacting to the situation of flashfloods that hit Mokwa, a market town located in Nigeriaโs north-central Niger State at the ministryโs headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the dams did not collapse during recent flooding. He, instead, attributed the overflow to climate change and unusually heavy rainfall. Read more
Night exam: WAEC denies cancellation of English Language (Sun)
The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday debunked insinuations that the English Language paper taken on May 28 has not been cancelled due to the conduct of the exam in the night in some parts of the country.
WAEC Head of National Office (HNO), Dr. Amos Dangut, told Daily Sun that the alleged statement of the cancellation of the English Language was fake and did not emanate from the council.
The fake statement dated Friday, May 30, allegedly signed by the head of the national office, said the reasons for the cancellation were based on misconduct, unauthorised use of notes, collaboration and recording of exam content in the exam halls, which degrades the value of the WAEC certificate. Parent, 4 others arrested for assaulting vice principal (Punch)
The Ondo State Police Command has said it had arrested five persons in connection with the attack on the Vice Principal of Complete Child Development College Aule, Akure, Mr Alexander Rotifa, by the parents of his students.
The suspects include the mother of the student who was alleged to have cheated during the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination with his Android phone, Mrs Dorcas Asije.
Rotifa reportedly prevented an SS3 student from cheating during the ongoing WASSCE where he was said to have used his Android phone to cheat but was caught while the phone was taken away from him by the VP. Read more
FG begins payment of N44k minimum wage arrears to ex-corps members (Nation)
The Federal Government has commenced the payment of N44,000 minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The commencement of the payment fulfills an earlier promise tied to the recent upward review of corps membersโ monthly allowance from N33, 000 to N77, 000.

Glastonbury announces full lineup for 2025 (Guardian)
Glastonbury festival has announced its full lineup of over 3,000 performances between 25 and 29 June, adding a number of new artists to the main stages along with timings and a series of tantalising secret sets.
Installed in a plum spot at 6.15pm on the Pyramid stage on Saturday night, after John Fogerty and before Raye and Neil Young, is an act called Patchwork โ unlikely to be the โalternative country fusionโ band from British Columbia or Tennesseeโs โoccult emotional hardcoreโ outfit of the same name. In 2023, Glastonbury hosted a similarly unheard-of band called the Churnups playing on the Pyramid stage, who ended up being Foo Fighters.
Glastonbury organisers said they would not provide any further information about Patchwork. There are also โto be announcedโ slots on late afternoon Friday on the Pyramid stage, Friday morning on the Woodsies stage (which has previously hosted secret sets from Kasabian and the Killers) and Saturday evening on the Park stage (Pulp and Jack White have been secret guests there in the past). World Boxing has formally apologised to the Algerian Boxing Federation for naming Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif when announcing a new genetic sex screening policy.

Japanese baseball legend Shigeo Nagashima dies aged 89 (BBC)
Former baseball player Shigeo Nagashima, who was once one of Japan’s most famous sports stars, has died aged 89.
He died of pneumonia at a hospital in Tokyo, according to a statement released by his former team the Yomiuri Giants.
Nicknamed Mr Giants, Nagashima won nine straight titles with the team in the 1960s and 70s, playing in 2,186 games and hitting 444 home runs. Read more
