Lagos police arrest car snatcher, recover vehicles (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a car snatcher in the Ojodu-Berger area of the state and recovered two vehicles in his possession.
The 36-year-old suspect, Dayo Jimoh, was said to have hijacked two vehicles at gunpoint last Saturday along with two others who are currently at large.
The police made this known in a statement, on Tuesday, signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin.
Hundeyin added that efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing suspects. Read more
Naira Scarcity: Banks in Ibadan dispense old naira notes to customers (Tribune)
Following the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria, commercial banks in different parts of Ibadan now give out and accept old naira notes from customers.
On a visit to commercial banks including, FirstBank, UBA, Access Bank, Union Bank, FCMB, Ecobank, Sterling Bank, Polaris Bank, Stanbic Bank and GTBank, the banks were all paying out old naira notes to customers.
Though there are still large crowds at banks, many commercial banks were seen paying out old naira notes to customers except Fidelity Bank, which claims it couldn’t pay out money because old naira notes are no longer available in the bank. Read more

The Nigerian Army has announced commencement of its 2023 recruitment exercise.
The organisation in a tweet via its official Twitter handle, @HQNigerianArmy on Tuesday, March 14 said portal for the recruitment has been opened since Monday, 13 March and it is free.
The Army said the recruitment is for 85 Regular Recruits Intake for Non-Tradesmen & women has commenced.

Cash Crunch: Nigerian Breweries worst hit in 15 years (Leadership)
Nigerian Breweries Plc has revealed that its business has been heavily impacted by the current cash crunch in the country.
In December, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) replaced old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes with news ones, triggering Naira scarcity that has worsened in recent weeks.
In an interview with Bloomberg, the chief executive officer of Nigerian Breweries, Mr. Hans Essaadi, said the company has faced a tough challenge as Nigerian Breweries Plc depends on cash for about 80 per cent of its retail sales. Read more
Gunmen abduct Accord candidate for Rivers Assembly (Guardian)
The Accord candidate for the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency 2 in the Rivers State House of Assembly Chukwudi Ogbonna has been abducted by gunmen.
Cousin to Ogbonna, Ifeaka Nwaka, confirmed the incident to journalists on Tuesday morning.

Court jails Yobe Auditor General for fraud (Channels)
A High Court sitting in Yobe has sentenced the state’s Auditor-General, Idris Yahaya, to five years in prison over N19,900,000 fraud.
Yahaya was found guilty on a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation.
On November 9, 2022, the auditor general was arraigned but he pleaded not guilty to the charge
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a statement on Monday, said the Auditor General received funds for the purchase of an official vehicle, a Toyota Corolla model 2015, and diverted part of the money to his personal use. Read more

Through his record label, Third Man Records, White has been able to purchase and oversee one of the biggest independent vinyl record production plants in America. Third Man’s Detroit location opened in 2017, making it the first vinyl record plant to open in the city since 1965. If you’re buying a reprint of The White Stripes’ catalogue or purchasing a new record from The Raconteurs, you can bet that White personally oversaw its production.

German Police: 2 children in custody over girl’s killing (ABC)
German police said Tuesday that two children are in custody suspected of killing a 12-year-old girl found dead earlier this week in the western town of Freudenberg, in a case that has shocked the country.
The girl, who was only identified by her first name Louise due to privacy reasons, went missing Saturday after visiting a friend. She was found stabbed to death on Sunday in a forest near a former railroad station, after a massive police search.
Prosecutor Mario Mannweiler told reporters that “we must assume that the crime was committed by two children from the (victim’s) circle of acquaintances.” Read more

[Metalcore favourites Avenged Sevenfold are back with their first release since 2016.
The iconic heavy band return with “Nobody,” the first single off their upcoming album, Life Is But a Dream, which they also just announced today. Their eighth studio album, which follows up 2016’s The Stage, is confirmed to arrive June 2 (via Warner Records).
Their latest single is what fans have grown to love about the longtime group, as it’s full of dark intensity and sprawls over six minutes, full of thrilling riffs. According to a press release, it encompasses the sound of the upcoming album, which is said to be “inspired by Albert Camus’ philosophical opus The Stranger” with lyrics “rooted in existentialism and absurdism.”

China to reopen its borders, resume all visas for tourists (FOX)
China has announced it will resume all visa travel, officially reopening its borders to tourists for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic started three years ago.
Health officials in Beijing and at the World Health Organization called for and implemented travel restrictions during the pandemic to help combat the infection’s spread.
Now, China is looking to resume tourism to boost its economy.
“China will continue to make better arrangements for the safe, healthy and orderly movement of Chinese and foreign personnel on the basis of scientific assessments and in light of the situation,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin told reporters. Read more
