Lagos police arrest woman for poisoning 1-year-old daughter (Punch)
A woman simply identified as Rukayat is now in police custody for allegedly poisoning her one-year-old daughter with an insecticide in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Online gathered that the incident occurred around 11am. on Friday.
A police source told our correspondent that the infant had epilepsy and that the mother poisoned her because she was fed up with the circumstances. Read more

A group of women under the umbrella of Abuja Mums has expressed concerns over the rising cases of rape and child molestation in Nigeria, calling on parents to speak up when such incidents occur for the child to get justice.
The women in their numbers staged a ‘Walk Against Child Molestation’ across the streets of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The protest walk took off from Millennium Park at 8 a.m., where they walked around the city to sensitise parents to the dangers of keeping silent when their children are molested, under the guise of avoiding stigmatisation. Read more

The Navy Secondary School, Akpabuyo in Cross River State has been closed down following the outbreak of measles at the college.
Cross River State’s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Henry Ayuk confirmed the outbreak at the Navy school as well as Penniel Primary Schools, also in the Akpabuyo area of the state.
Ayuk stated that the State Rapid Response Team from the Ministry of Health has been deployed to address the outbreak in the two affected schools. Read more

UN warns surge in gang violence puts pregnant women at risk in Haiti (AlJazeera)
The United Nations has warned that nearly 3,000 pregnant women could be cut off from essential health services in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, which has been paralysed as a result of surging gang violence.
In a statement on Friday to mark International Women’s Day, the UN Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) said nearly 450 pregnant women could suffer “life-threatening” complications without access to healthcare.
Another 521 survivors of sexual violence — a prevalent problem that has worsened amid the instability in Haiti — also could be cut off from medical services by the end of the month if the violence persists, the UN office warned. Read more

President Joe Biden said Friday that he would sign a bill that could force TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance to divest the popular social media company or face a ban in the U.S.
“If they pass it, I’ll sign it,” Biden said, referring to bipartisan legislation that is on track to get a vote next week in the House. The bill, called the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, would need to pass the Senate as well before reaching Biden’s desk.
The legislation would allow the president, via the FBI and intelligence agencies, to name certain social media apps as national security threats if they are determined to be under the control of foreign adversaries. Apps deemed a risk would be banned from U.S. app stores unless they sever ties with foreign-controlled entities within 180 days. Read more
