Lagos reopens Eko Bridge Sunday, 15 months after inferno

The Lagos State Government has announced the reopening of the Eko Bridge linking Lagos Island and the Mainland to vehicular movement from 12 am (WAT) on Sunday.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while at the Apongbon section of the bridge on Sunday for inspection, appreciated the Lagos public for their patience during the period of the closure for repairs.

He however issued a zero tolerance to human activities like trading or residency, under all bridges, which he blamed for the inferno in March 2022 that damaged the bridge at Apongbon and led to its closure for repairs, with resultant hardship on motorists.

Government Sanwo-Olu told the users of the bridge to expect intermittent closures for comprehensive rehabilitation of the bridge up to Alaka and adjoining roads around Apongbon.

Earlier, the Federal Controller Works in Lagos, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, appreciated the governor for ensuring a smooth collaboration between the State and federal government on the project but appealed that the dislodging of illegal occupants under all bridges in Lagos state.
