Lagos taskforce busts illicit drug peddlers, arrest 19 suspects (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Taskforce has busted criminal hideouts and black spots at Gowon Estate and adjoining streets in the area, resulting in the arrest of 19 suspects allegedly involved in trafficking narcotic drugs and other criminal activities. This was stated in a press statement released by the Director, Press & Public Affairs, Lagos State Taskforce , Gbadeyan Abdulraheem.
According to Abdulraheem, during the operation, Taskforce officers uncovered a disturbing cache of illicit substances, including Colorado, Indian hemp, narcotics, and other controlled substances.
In addition, several bags of hard drugs were found in the boots of cars parked in the area, further underscoring the severity of the criminal activities being perpetrated there. (REad more)
Lagos to prosecute 10 suspects for street trading (Punch)
At least 10 individuals have been arrested by officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps around the Alaba Rago–Ojo area of the Lagos-Badagry Motorway for alleged street trading and environmental violations.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrests in a post shared on his X.com page on Monday.
Wahab emphasised the government’s unwavering stance on the enforcement of environmental laws. Our joint enforcement teams from KAI and LAWMA commenced clearance operations along Ojo–Alaba Road and the Badagry Motorway. (Read more)
3 convicted for vandalising Ikeja Electric’s equipment (TheNation)
Three persons have been convicted by Lagos Magistrate Courts for vandalising and stealing equipment belonging to Ikeja Electric Plc.
The convicts, Adegbite Jamiu, Jeremiah Chukwuemeka and Joshua Udeh were convicted by the Ikorodu and Ikeja Magistrates’ courts on May 5 and 7, the DisCo said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement signed by Head, Corporate Communications, Kingsley Okotie, the arrest and prosecution of the convicts were in demonstration of Ikeja Electric’s zero-tolerance for vandalism and other infractions that impedes its commitment to efficient and effective service delivery to customers. LASTMA apprehends alleged hit-and-run driver (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended a driver who allegedly attempted to run away after causing an accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said this in a statement on Sunday in Lagos. The statement was signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA.
Bakare-Oki said that the lone accident involved a black Toyota Tundra with registration number FST 222 HV and occurred at the Mosalasi Roundabout on New Ipaja Road. Preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicle, speeding, veered uncontrollably off the carriageway, mounted the pedestrian walkway, and fatally struck a woman who died instantly from the impact. NDLEA intercepts drugs disguised as tea at Lagos airport (Punch)
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted drug consignments disguised as green tea. The operatives also seized narcotics concealed in a car’s spare tyre.
A statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the drugs disguised as tea were recovered at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos.
He said the NDLEA officers, acting on credible intelligence, seized 66 parcels of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, disguised as green tea. (Read more)
Police deploy reinforcements to Mushin over rising crime rate (Guardian)
The Lagos State Police Command has deployed additional operatives to Mushin and its environs following public outcry over incidents of daylight assaults, harassment, and theft by teenage miscreants and hoodlums, reportedly aged between 14 and 16.
State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has dispatched police tactical squads, Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel, and other conventional teams to curb the activities of the miscreants, arrest offenders, and bring them to justice. He urged residents and traders in Mushin to go about their lawful activities without fear or apprehension.
The Area Commander covering Mushin has been directed to collaborate with the two local council chairmen in the area. Together, they have devised strategies to enhance security deployment and ensure the protection of residents and traders. (Read more)
Man jailed 14 years for attempting to defile stepdaughter (Punch)
A man, Ahmed Ayinla, was on Wednesday sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, for attempting to sexually assault his nine-year-old stepdaughter, (name withheld).
The court handed down the sentence after the convict pleaded guilty to an amended charge of attempted sexual assault by penetration.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, in his judgment, held that he was satisfied that the convict understood the nature of the plea bargain agreement. (Read more)
