The Lagos State Taskforce has seized 58 motorcycles during a recent enforcement operation aimed at ensuring compliance with the ban on commercial motorcycles, also known as okada, across restricted routes in the metropolis.

The State Ministry of Transportation disclosed this on Friday on X.

The enforcement covered major highways, including Gbagada-Oshodi, Oshodi-Apapa, Mile 2-Badagry Expressway, and Apple Junction, areas known for heavy motorcycle activity despite the restrictions.

The operation was carried out to address violations of the ban and reduce traffic congestion caused by motorcyclists flouting the restriction order.

The Lagos State Government also made it clear that the enforcement of the okada ban remains a continuous exercise.

“The TASKFORCE during compliance monitoring on the ban on commercial motorcycles (okada) across several restricted routes and zones in the metropolis confiscated 58 motorcycles for violating the restriction order.

“The enforcement exercise covered major highways, including Gbagada-Oshodi, Oshodi-Apapa, Mile 2-Badagry Expressway, and Apple Junction.

“The locations covered were subsequently decongested from traffic bottlenecks caused by recalcitrant motorcyclists to enhance safety and security of commuters and pedestrians.“The enforcement of the okada ban remains a continuous exercise.” (Guardian)
