Lagos to arraign 18-year-old for hoax calls to Fire Service (Channels)
The Lagos State Government is set to arraign 18-year-old Uzuokwu Solomon for offences relating to making hoax calls for an emergency responder which is punishable under the Lagos State Fire Service Law and Command and Control Centre Law 2013.
This was made known in a statement by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Ololade Agboola.
Agboola said the culprit who is alleged to have called the emergency line of the Fire Service on Friday, April 14, 2023 at 17:35 hours from Harmony Estate, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos, reported a fire emergency within the estate leading to the activation of emergency processes and eventual dispatch of the fire trucks from Lekki Phase II Fire Service Station. NDLEA intercepts drug consignments in winter jackets, body lotion at Lagos airport (Channels)
Consignments of Tramadol, Rohypnol, Ecstasy (Designer drug) and Cannabis concealed in winter jackets and bottles of body cream have been intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja Lagos.
The psychoactive substances were recovered at the new terminal of the airport on Friday 14th April following the arrest of a passenger, Joshia Sunday who was traveling on a Qatar Airline flight via Doha to Oman, Middle East.
A thorough search of the suspect’s two black bags led to the discovery of 4.80 kilograms of cannabis concealed in three winter jackets and various quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol, Ecstasy (Designer drug) hidden in bottles of body lotion. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect came into Nigeria from Oman on April 7, and was returning exactly a week after. Read more
Wife arraigned for standing surety for fleeing husband (Punch)
One Cynthia Ukachukwu has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State for her failure to produce her husband, Augustine, before the court for trial after he was released to her on bail.
Ukachukwu was arraigned by the state police command before Magistrate O. Y Adefope on Friday, on one count of an attempt to pervert justice.
According to the prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, Ukachukwu’s husband, Augustine, was arraigned for obtaining money by false pretences and stealing N2.2m from one Grace Uzoigwe under the pretence of selling a parcel of land to her. Read more
Ex-NPA employee gets 14 years jail over N24.3m fraud (Punch)
An Ikeja special offences court has sentenced a retired staff of the Nigeria Ports Authority, Nasiru Ogara, to 14 years imprisonment over N24.3m fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had charged a four-count charge against Ogara and his company, New Age Motor WasteBasket Ltd.
The Commission’s counsel, Nwandu Ukoha, said Ogara induced the Director of Kelly Newton Nigeria Ltd, Usman Ademoye, in 2017, to confer a benefit on him by delivering 8,000 units of waste bin worth N5.2 million to him in the understanding that the waste bins would be paid for. Read more
UNIZIK graduate arrested for $220k romance scam against German (Punch)
The Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos, has arrested a female graduate, Chioma Atuonah, for allegedly defrauding a 50-year-old German of $220,000, after promising to marry him.
The spokesperson for the unit, SP Eyitayo Johnson, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, said the suspect lured the victim on Instagram by allegedly feigning romantic intentions towards him.
The statement read in part, “The suspect, a 2019 graduate of Economics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; who claimed to be a model and proprietress of a massage spa known as The-Chi-Place, lured the 50-year-old victim on Instagram by feigning romantic intentions towards him, thereby gaining the victims’ trust and goodwill. Developers flee after defrauding accommodation seekers in Lagos (Punch)
Two developers identified simply as Ola, aka Pastor, and one Yusuf, have gone into hiding after allegedly defrauding some accommodation seekers in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the two developers took the prospective tenants to the 10 flats bungalow on Asungbolu Street, Ikotun, for inspection at different times after which payments were made to them.
After receiving payments, the suspects issued receipts to the victims and thereafter informed them that the building which was under renovation would be ready by the end of March. Read more
37-year-old man steals N21m from church (Punch)
A 37-year-old man, Nwafor Onyebuchi, was on Tuesday arraigned by the police before a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Badagry for allegedly stealing N21m from a Catholic church.
Onyebuchi is facing three counts bordering on conspiracy, stealing, and breaching of public peace preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 21, 2022, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Alaba in the Ojo area of the state. Read more
19-year-old steals ram, attempts escaping from police custody (Punch)
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday sentenced a teenager, Abass Enitan, to nine months imprisonment without an option of fine for damaging a police station cell toilet window in a bid to escape.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Magistrate M. C Ayinde sentenced Enitan, 19, without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
“This will serve as a deterrent to others,” she held.
Enitan, whose address was not known, was charged with unlawful attempt to escape from custody and wilful damage. Read more
Teenager in court for injuring boy in Lagos (Punch)
A teenager, Ogwu Favour, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, on charges of assault leading to bodily harm.
The defendant allegedly assaulted a boy, Chukwuma Nwali, by using a stool to injure him on his right eye in the Iganmu area of the state.
Favour, who was arraigned before Magistrate O.O Adeosun is facing a two-count bordering on assault preferred against him by the police. Read more
Man bags life jail for defiling neighbour’s 3-year-old daughter (Punch)
The Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja on Monday sentenced a 46-year-old man, Kehinde Gabriel, to life imprisonment for defiling a three-year-old girl.
The court was presided over by Justice Ramon A. Oshodi found him guilty of the one-count charge of defilement in case ID/8392C/2018 and described him as a person of no truth who has no remorse for what he did.
The judge said the act, which violated Section 137 of the Criminal Law 2015, was unjustifiable and handed him the maximum punishment. Read more
Lagos bishop accused of raping pastors arraigned (Punch)
The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday, granted a bishop, Oluwafeyiropo Daniel, who was accused of raping two of his church pastors (names withheld) bail.
Justice Ramon Oshodi however remanded Oluwafeyiropo who is the founder of I Reign Christian Ministry in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending when he can perfect his bail conditions.

31-year-old jailed bricklayer sells cannabis in prison (Punch)
A 31-year-old bricklayer, Rasheed Bolaji, who sold cannabis sativa, in Ikoyi Custodial Centre has been sentenced to two years imprisonment by the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The convict was sentenced by Justice Abimbola Awogboro, after finding him guilty of two-count of trafficking and unlawful dealing in 5.3 kg of Indian hemp, brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Justice Awogboro handed down the jail term on Friday after the bricklayer pleaded guilty to the charges when he was arraigned. Read more

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday remanded a clergyman, Daniel Oluwafeyiropo, for allegedly raping two of his church members (names withheld).
Justice Ramon Oshodi remanded the founder of “I Reign Christian Ministry” in Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

Police recover gun, others from fleeing suspects in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has recovered a gun and six cartridges from fleeing suspects in the Egbe area of the state.
Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated in Lagos on Saturday that the items were recovered by policemen on patrol duty in the area.
He stated that on sighting the police patrol team, the suspects dropped a polyethylene bag and fled. Read more
Lagos CP removes DPO over extortion (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, has ordered the immediate removal of the Divisional Police Officer of Okokomaiko, SP Emmanuel Edebagha, for the lack of supervision of his men.
The CP also ordered immediate disciplinary action against Edebagha and all officers involved in the act.

Police arrest 42 suspected cultists in 2 week in Lagos (Guardian)
The police command in Lagos State says it has arrested no fewer than 42 suspected cultists in different parts of the state in the last two weeks.
The Commissioner of Police in the command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, disclosed this on Wednesday while parading the suspects before newsmen at the State Command Headquarters, Ikeja.
Owohunwa said that the suspects were arrested after he distributed the tactical operatives from the command headquarters to different police divisions, cultism was commonly mentioned. Read more
