LASG demolishes four two-storey buildings in Ikoyi (Punch)
The Lagos State Government has pulled down four two-storey buildings under construction in Ikoyi for failing integrity test.
This came after a two-storey building under construction at Glover Court, Ikoyi, collapsed on Friday, killing one person and injuring four labourers working at the site.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, announced the demolition in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Saturday. Read more

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured Lagosians that he is in government to serve the people, especially to provide solutions to the increasing traffic gridlock and the promotion of ease of doing business in the state. He said if his administration cannot provide these services, among others, it has no business being in government.

Lagos NAPPS to raise support for motherless babies (Nation)
The National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Lagos State led by Alhaji Wasiu Olaitan Adumadeyin is set to stage a humanitarian campaign aimed at raising support for motherless babies in different orphanage homes in the state.
The event tagged “Motherless Babies Day with Adumadeyin and Friends” will bring together all members of NAPPS and friends of Alhaji Adumadeyin to raise one thousand bags of rice to support the orphanages.
At the press conference held at the NAPPS state secretariat in Lagos, Adumadeyin said he was excited about the humanitarian project and promised the commitment of the association is not just helping to get bags of rice but most importantly help to create a strong culture of love, care for the motherless babies, not just on special occasions, but every day. LASG to close learning gaps in schools – Sanwo-Olu (Nation)
The Lagos State government has again reiterated its commitment to closing learning gaps in public and private schools in the state for effective delivery of qualitative and quantitative education.
This was disclosed by the governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Director General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, at the 10th Annual Conference of Association of Private Educators of Nigeria (APEN) tagged Global Classroom 2030: Vehicle to Attitudes, Knowledge, Skills and Values.
At the conference, Sanwo-olu expressed government’s resolve to collaborate with the private sector to drive tailored policies and programmes toward creating an enabling environment for teaching and learning in Lagos schools below tertiary level and build processes and structures that will ensure sustainability aimed at improving quality education in the state. Obaseki, others escape lynching at Oshiomhole’s residence (Vanguard)
The crisis between Edo state governor and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress degenerated yesterday as angry youths from Iyamho Oshiomhole’s village in Etsako West local government area attacked the convoy of Governor Godwin Obaseki from Entering Oshiomhole’s compound after the maiden convocation of Edo University.
Vanguard gathered that the youths had mistaken the governor’s convoy for that of his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu who had earlier in the day an altercation with security agents while entering the venue if the convocation ceremony. Read more

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has condemned the attack on him, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, Chancellor of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola and other guests at the residence of former Governor of the State and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Speaking to journalists after the incident, the governor took exception to the resort to violence, noting that it was shameful for such an attack to take place at the residence of the National Chairman of the ruling party in the state and at the national level. Read more
Ogun farmers decry seizure of products by customs (Guardian)
This is not the best of times for farmers and agro produce merchants in Ilara, Imeko, Iwoye and neighbouring communities bordering Benin Republic in Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State.The communities are complaining of seizure of their tomato by the Customs men.
According to Chairman of the Tomato Farmers’ Association at Ilara, Chief Olusolale Olaleye, the officers’ stopped the farmers from taking their farm produce to the market. Olaleye said: “We lost 11 buses of tomato, which amounted to N440, 000. They did not resell them to us. They seized them from us and sent us away.”
Just few weeks after the matter was resolved, the seizure has shifted to other farm produce. Currently, crops like maize, soybean, fruits and other farm produce, including yam flour are rotting away in stores and bans as they have been tagged ‘contraband’ by customs officials.A maize farmer, Mr. Isiaka Adekanmbi said: “The Customs men have been hindering us from transporting our farm produce outside the area, despite the fact that we don’t carry rice. Ever since the border closure, they have been intercepting our consignment and taking them to their base in Quarry, Abeokuta. Read more
Zenith Bank donates 1m exercise books to Kano (Nation)
The first batch of one million exercise books pledged by Zenith Bank, 250,000 of them, were handed over to the Kano State governor as part of the bank’s contribution towards achieving a successful implementation of free and compulsory basic and post-basic education policy and the integration of Almajiri system of education.
The bank was highly elated and moved by the policy, which was aimed at genuinely developing the state, the Northwest Zonal Head, Dr. Sani Yahaya, representing the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, said while handing over the books to the governor at Government House, Kano.
Yahaya hinted that “This is just a tip of an iceberg. It is part of our corporate social responsibility and we will keep on with what we have started. Your Excellency, this is not the first time our bank is showing genuine interest in the development of the state.” Read more
21-Year-old arrested for allegedly raping 90-year-old grandmother (Vanguard)
A 21-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly raping a grandmother of 90 years in Bomet East Constituency, Kenya.
Newslexpoint reports that the accused was apprehended on Thursday evening at Mulot town in Bomet County after the ‘Nyumba Kumi’ members spent the whole day hunting for him.
He allegedly broke into the house of the elderly woman in the middle of the night. Children who had come to visit their granny heard noise of disturbance coming from her bedroom and raised an alarm. Read more
Russian air strike kills six civilians in Syria (Guardian)
An air strike Saturday by key Damascus ally Russia killed six civilians including a child in the embattled opposition bastion of Idlib in northwestern Syria, a war monitor.
The strike hit the village of Jabala in the south of the Idlib region, taking the lives of all six from the same family, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The Britain-based monitor, which relies on sources inside Syria, says it determines who carries out an air strike according to flight patterns, as well as aircraft and ammunition involved.
An AFP correspondent at the site of the strike saw rescue workers searching a mound of concrete rubble near a surviving olive tree. Read more

Kenyan, Ethiopians shine at Abeokuta 10 KM JAC Marathon race (Vanguard)
A 21 year old Kenyan athlete, Biwott Kemboi on Saturday beat over 3,000 athletes in the maiden Abeokuta 10 kilometers Marathon race after completing the race in 28 minutes, sixteen seconds.
Ahletes from 18 countries took part in the race tagged “JAC Motors Abeokuta 10KM Marathon Race 2019.”
Kemboi went home with $5,000 overall prize in the male category, while an Ethiopian, Tadu Nare who crossed the finish line in 33 minutes and 43 seconds clinched $5,000 overall prize in the female category prize. Read more

Stoke City midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo, has expressed disappointment on missing out on the opportunity to face his international teammate Semi Ajayi when West Bromich Albion play against Stoke City on Monday in the Championship.
