LASG to clampdown on traders on rail lines (Independent)
The Lagos State Task Force Agency, on Sunday warned traders and other persons doing businesses on rail lines in the state to leave or be ready for arrest and prosecution.
The Chairman of the Agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi gave the warning through the Head of Public Affairs, Mr Adebayo Taofiq.
He warned that there would be a clampdown on all illegal activities on rail corridors in Lagos. Read more

Militia bombs Bayelsa oil field (Nation)
An oil field operated by Conoil at the weekend exploded and went up in flames at Koluama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
A group, which identified itself as the Koluama Seven Brothers (KSB), claimed responsibility for the explosion, which sources described as massive and deafening.
It was gathered that the attack on a pipeline located in the oilfield, which occurred on January 4 at about 12.30am, caused panic with some folks thinking the Koluama community was under attack by militants. Read more
Government to spend N1.149 trillion on petrol subsidy in 2019 (Guadian)
A princely sum of N1. 149, 385 trillion is estimated to go into the payment of subsidy on petrol imported into the country this year.With the provision of a mere $1 billion, which is about N305 billion in the 2019 budget year, the country may run into a massive budget deficit if nothing is done about the development.
The breakdown shows that at the prevailing $2.54 per gallon of fuel in the United States, which translates to N774.7 at the official exchange rate of N305 to $1, a litre of petrol in the country costs N193.68 on the average. Read more

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II has cautioned youths to desist from evil activities capable of ruining their futures.
The monarch gave the advice at a lavish reception for the youth on Saturday at the palace ground in Benin. He said that for the young ones to excel in life, they must eschew all forms of youthful delinquencies and focus on virtues that would make them future leaders. Read more

Ezekwesili seeks Zakari’s removal, flays new role as political corruption (Guardian)
The Presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has asked the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mamoud Yakubu, to reverse the recent deployment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as one of its commissioners.
It would be recalled that Zakari, who is well known as President Muhammadu Buhari’s relation, was on Thursday announced the chairperson of INEC’s Results Collation Centre in the February 2019 elections. Read more
MOSOP already abolished, says Ogoni activist (Vanguard)
Dr Goodluck Diigbo, President, Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority (OCIA), has said that the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has been abolished, warning the public against impostors.
Diigbo gave the warning as the people marked the 27th Ogoni Day in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers.
He said that MOSOP, having achieved its primary objective, has currently been abolished to pave way for an autonomous body that would oversee the implementation of MOSOP’s demand as a collective concern of the Ogoni people. Read more

The Nigerian Army on December 28, 2018, announced that it would begin a nationwide Operation Python Dance 3.
Python Dance (first called Egwu Eke by the military in Igbo language), is a special military operation originally meant to rid strategic and specific areas of hoodlums and criminals.
For those who do not know, the python is a dangerous serpent that maims, kills and even swallows animals, including humans, that cross its path. Read more

How Bauchi wedding fatiha became bride’s funeral prayer (DailyTrust)
It was a tragic day in Bauchi on Friday, 28 December 2018, when a bride-to-be suddenly died a few hours to her wedding fatiha scheduled to hold on Saturday, 29th December 2018 by 11am at Gwallaga mosque.
The families of Engineer Salisu Alhaji Boyi and Alhaji Abdulkadir Tataru had completed all arrangements for the wedding in Bauchi, but her funeral prayer was conducted in the same mosque, same time, because she died on the eve of her wedding.
Late Fauziyya was buried on Saturday, after the funeral prayer conducted at the Gwallaga Jumma’at Mosque that would have been the venue for her wedding fatiha. Read more
Health minister seeks review of NHIS Act (ThisDay)

Afro-fusion star, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy, has clinched the most wins at the 2019 Soundcity MVP Awards, taking home four plaques including ‘African Artiste of the Year’.

Fabregas ready for Monaco switch (Vanguard)
Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas is expected in Monaco on Sunday to negotiate a transfer to the French Ligue 1 club from Chelsea, sports daily L’Equipe reported Saturday.

Super Eagles’ captain, John Mikel Obi, has been linked with a move to Turkish giants, Fenerbache, a few days after he cancelled his contract with Chinese club, Tianjin Teda.
