Legendary Bluesman Buddy Guy on his buzzy movie role in ‘Sinners’ (Variety)
Damn right, he’s got the blues… and the scars to show for it. A surprise extended cameo at the end of “Sinners” [spoiler alert!] reveals that Sammie, who is played as a youth in the 1930s by Miles Caton, survived the film’s long night of terror, thanks in part to how a resonator guitar can be used as a weapon. And he has lived on in the form of someone who looks and plays very much like Buddy Guy. It is Buddy Guy, of course, still around and still arguably — no, inarguably — the most legendary blues guitarist walking the planet. Variety caught up with Guy, 88, on the phone from his native Chicago, where he still plays at his club, much like the aged Sammie in “Sinners” still plays at his. Guy says, “If I could get quite a few more people speaking like you, I might consider myself as a movie actor.” Then, he quickly adds, “No, that’s just a joke coming from me.” Read more

“As far as I know, there has been no recent phone call between the two heads of state,” Guo Jiakun told a regular news conference. “I want to reiterate that China and the United States are not engaged in consultations or negotiations on the tariff issue.” Read more

Eubank Jr & Benn face inevitable rematch but Hearn urges caution (Guardian)
“Iwant my revenge, man,” Conor Benn said quietly in the early hours of Sunday morning as his bruised face reflected his emotional pain after he lost against Chris Eubank Jr in a wild brawl at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. “I want my revenge.”
Those typical boxing words echoed the misguided clamour for a rematch with Eubank Jr. Eddie Hearn admitted that he would prefer Benn to move back down two divisions to welterweight but the promoter grinned helplessly: “The public, His Excellency, everybody’s going to want the rematch.”
Turki al-Sheikh heads Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority which splurges billions of dollars while controlling the fight game. Boxing’s fawning over his largesse means that he must be called His Excellency and Hearn said, with suitable deference: “You heard His Excellency in the ring. He’s booked the [rematch] date here, for September.” Read more
