Latto has voiced her support for Megan Thee Stallion amid her beef with Nicki Minaj, who the Atlanta rapper also has a turbulent history with.
The Houston Hottie dropped “HISS” last week and immediately stirred up controversy with a bar that referenced the federal requirement for authorities to make information on registered sex offenders available to the public. Many perceived this to be a shot at the Queen hitmaker’s husband, who is on probation for failing to put his name on the registry.
Since then, the Nicki has gone on several social media rants and even released a diss track aimed at her adversary. Her behaviour over the past week has sparked concern among her fans as well as the larger Hip Hop community.
As the noise continues, Latto has picked a side in the beef and made it clear who she stands with. On Tuesday (January 31), Megan shared a clip of her new song’s music video on Instagram, a few hours after which the Lottery superstar hopped in the comments section and wrote: “U making us proud Meg [star-eyed emoji].”
In 2022, Latto and Nicki engaged in a Twitter spat that stemmed from the latter’s frustration at “Super Freaky Girl” being deemed a pop song by the Grammys while“Big Energy” wasn’t.
“I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY, If [‘Super Freaky Girl’] has [2 billion views] moved out RAP then so does Big Energy,” the 41-year-old wrote, referring to her peer’s multi-platinum single.
After reaching out offline, Big Latto ultimately responded with: “1st of all I texted u cause I didn’t wanna do the internet sht w sum1 I looked up to. Just like the 1st time I DMed u asking about ur ongoing subtweets. I wanted to speak up cuz like I said I do agree but the way u going about it seems malicious esp. after how we left off.
“I’ve ignored countless subtweets since March and instead addressed u in the dm. You’re asking why I didn’t speak up in ur defense… it’s the same answer I gave u when u asked why I didn’t congratulate you. Ur literally older than my mom tryna be a bully @NICKIMINAJ.”
Latto went on to premier “Put It On Da Floor” during her Coachella performance last year, which received tons of attention for the bars “Bitches acting like they running shit, they really ran through” and “She thought I would kiss her ass, she mustn’t have took her meds.”
At the end of the track, she had more words: “Say she got a problem, imaginary smoke/ Bitch, you said it’s up, then put on the floor.”
“Pussy ho… Let a bitch know, we tired of the subtweets this year,” she concluded.
Unsurprisingly, these lines have since been linked to the online feud from the year prior. (HipHopDx)
