Ajimobi grants amnesty to 15 prisoners (Nation)
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has granted amnesty at differing levels to 15 various offenders currently serving prison sentences at different prisons in the state. The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Oluseun Abimbola said in Ibadan on Tuesday that 11 convicts will enjoy either outright release, or reduction in sentence terms, while four persons had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment. Flood: LG boss decries paucity of funds in Anambra IDPs (Nation)
Mr Arinze Awogu, the Chairman, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra, has decried the paucity of funds to attend to critical health and other needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in the area. Eight students of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State, were on Tuesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court over membership of an unlawful society called Eiye Confraternity. The accused are Lawal Ahmed, 23; Ogunyemi Oluwayosi, 19; Samuel Irikefe, 17; Godwin Etim, 23; and Abayomi Badmus, 24. LASU dismiss three lecturers over sexual harassment (Guardian)
Lagos State University (LASU) has dismissed three lecturers due to offences on sexual harassment of students. The lecturers are; Dr. Odubunmi, Ayoola Sunkanmi, Dr. Ogunwande Isiaka Ajani and Dr. Gbeleyi Emmanuel Orilade. Although the school did not disclose instances of sexual assault and harassment offence committed by the staff but said there had been series of such allegations against them. Read more
Nikki Haley: US ambassador to UN resigns (BBC)
US President Donald Trump has accepted the resignation of UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. He told reporters in the Oval Office that she would be leaving the post at the end of the year after doing “an incredible job”. Venezuela says suspected Maduro attack plotter kills himself (Guardian)
Venezuela’s government said Monday an opposition member accused of taking part in a failed drone attack on President Nicolas Maduro killed himself while in custody, but the opposition claimed he had been murdered. Attorney General Tarek William Saab told state television VTV Fernando Alban, who was in pretrial detention at the headquarters of the intelligence service, asked to go to the restroom and threw himself from a tenth-floor window. Turkey police round up dozens over alleged PKK links (Guardian)
Turkish police detained dozens of people over alleged links to Kurdish militants in an operation carried out in nine cities including Kurdish-majority Diyarbakir, the local prosecutor’s office said Tuesday. The police detained 90 out of 151 suspects they were seeking during the raids carried out at 183 addresses, and seized organisational documents and digital materials, the chief prosecutor’s office in Diyarbakir said in a statement. Thousands evacuated as explosions spark fire at Ukraine arms depot (Guardian)
More than 12,000 people were evacuated after ammunition stored at an arms depot in northern Ukraine began exploding early Tuesday and set off a huge fire, authorities said. Security services said they were investigating “possible sabotage” in the incident at a defence ministry depot near the village of Druzhba, around 135 kilometres (84 miles) northeast of Kiev. Siblings arraigned for defrauding BDC operators of $50,000 (Punch)
The police on Tuesday arraigned two siblings, David Okwuanalu and Graham Mike Okwuanalu, for allegedly swindling two Bureau De Change operators of $50,000. The Okwuanalus were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on four counts bordering on conspiracy and fraud. The police prosecuting counsel from the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Alagbon, Henry Obiazi, told the court that the defendants, with some persons still at large, committed the offence between August and December 2016. Burglar invades policeman’s home, steals security lamp fittings (Punch)
A 20-year-old man, Mohammed Fahad, was on Tuesday arraigned in a Karshi Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for stealing security lamp fittings in the house of a police officer. Fahad, who was arraigned on three counts bordering on trespass, mischief and theft, however, denied committing the offences. Ondo lecturer allegedly dies in house fire (Punch)
The Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, says one of its lecturers, Prof. Adegboyega Obadofin, has died in a fire incident at his residence. The Vice-Chancellor of OSUSTECH, Prof. Sunday Ogunduyile, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Okitipupa that the university authorities had reported the matter to the Police to ascertain the cause of the fire.
