A popular Lekki Pastor, Apostle Chris Omashola, who heads the Zionwealth Church, was on Saturday afternoon involved in a auto crash in Warri.
His Special Assistant, Mr. Seun Adeyeye, in a terse statement, explained the accident occurred at about 3pm around a flyover opposite Delta Mall in Warri, Delta State.
Omashola, who is also a Public Relations expert, was driving alone in a Toyota Camry when the car crashed. Read more
No confidence vote on Babalakin subsists until… – UNILAG ASUU (Vanguard)
The University of Lagos, UNILAG, branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has said the Vote of No Confidence passed on the Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Dr Wale Babalakin, SAN, is still in force, as it was passed at a duly held Congress of the union.
The UNILAG ASUU, therefore, said it is only another duly held Congress that can review the said vote, and that until then, the votes is still effective.

Third Mainland Bridge closure: FG, LASG begin alternative routes collaborative repairs (Vanguard)
Barely four days to the partial closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for rehabilitation, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr Olukayode Popoola, said massive rehabilitation of alternative routes were progressing.
Popoola told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the Federal Ministry of Works and Lagos State Government were tackling the rehabilitation works together simultaneously on different access paths.
He said rising from a stakeholders meeting which held on July 13th, all participants, including the roads maintenance interests groups, swung into immediate action to ensure minimal traffic discomfort. Read more
Lagos residents cry out over ‘punitive’ disconnection, exorbitant electricity bill (DailyTrust)
Some Lagos residents at the weekend protested against what they called exorbitant electricity bill by the electricity distribution company, calling for the intervention of the Federal Government to stop what they called the “fleecing of consumers.”
Most of the consumers on the estimated billing who spoke with our correspondent in Lagos at the weekend also accused the disco of massive disconnection of electricity amidst short notice. Daily Trust reports that some residents of Ikeja, Agege, Iyana Ipaja, Ogba who are not on the prepaid metering system insisted the bill has continued to rise without commensurate supply. COVID-19: Lagos discharges 42 fully recovered patients (Tribune)
Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has disclosed on Friday that 42 COVID-19 patients, comprising 17 females and 25 males, including 10 foreign nationals were discharged from isolation facilities across the state to reunite with the society, having fully recovered and tested negative to the virus.
The governor disclosed this through the Twitter handle of his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Gboyega Akosile while giving an update on the pandemic as the Incident Commander.
According to him, the recovered patients were: eight from Gbagada, five from Agidingbi, 15 from Eti-Osa (LandMark), six from Onikan and eight also from Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH isolation centres. Read more
NAF hands over Arotile’s killers to police for prosecution (Independent)
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Sunday, said that it was handing over the suspected killers of Flying Officer Tolulope Arotile, First Female Combat Helicopter Pilot, to the Nigeria Police to conclude investigation and commence prosecution.
Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), of the Air Force, who addressed a press conference in Abuja, to clarify on issues surrounding her death, said the deceased family had already been communicated on the preliminary investigation report into the cause of her death. Court summons Malami, Emefiele, others over handover of National Theatre (Guardian)
Justice Ayokunle Faji of a Lagos High Court has ordered the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami and five others to appear before it on July 24, 2020 handover of National Theatre.
The judge ordered them to appear in court to show cause why they handed over of the theatre to developers while the property is a subject of pending litigation.
The Nigerian Government had on June 12, 2020, handed over the National Theater to Emefiele, and others under the Bankers’ Committee in a bid to transform the theatre and its environ in Nigeria’s creative hub. Read more
Policewoman, daughter, 4 others kidnapped In Kaduna community (Leadership)
Again, bandits suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a policewoman, her daughter and four other persons at Janruwa along Patrick Yakowa way in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.
The incident according to eye witnesses happened in the late hours of Saturday, when the bandits stormed the community and started breaking into houses in Commando style.
An eyewitness, Mr. Babalola Mathew said, “It was a commando like adventure.

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have eliminated top commanders and members of Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in recent encounters in the northeast, according to Defence Headquarters.
The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.
Enenche disclosed that the troops had on July 17, killed six terrorists at Kolofata, a community on Republic of Cameroon border, in an attempt to cross towards Sambisa Forest axis. Read more
Coronavirus: Zimbabwe arrests 100,000 for ‘violations’ of measures (BBC)
More than 105,000 people have been arrested in Zimbabwe since March for violating regulations aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus, police say.
Around 1,000 were arrested in the last two days for “unnecessary movement” or for not wearing face masks, they add.

Iran halts execution of three protesters after online campaign (BBC)
Iran has halted the executions of three men who were sentenced to death over anti-government protests last year, according to one of their lawyers.
Babak Paknia told reporters that a request for a retrial had been accepted by the supreme court.

Beyoncé has shared the new trailer for Black Is King, her new visual album inspired by The Lion King: The Gift and arriving on Disney+ on July 31st.

A historic event took place in Lagos in the 1950s. Somehow, more than 60 years after, the echo is reverberating in London and across the world.
It was few days before Christmas in December 1950, according to eyewitnesses some of who are now in their 80s.
Ebute Ero in Lagos was the host. The area, known as a major terminal, witnessed its own version of ‘rumble in the jungle.’ Some 15 tough Lagos street boys were against a man cut in the physique of a typical villager.
Reports said the Lagos boys were in their James Brown styled baggies, afro haircut and high-heel shoes up in arms against an underrated rustic who had on him shorts made of “Teru”, a local fabric; wore ‘Kajawogbe”, the Yoruba primordial shoes made from used tires associated with the costume village hunters usually adorn on their way to night expeditions. The 32-year-old recorded three knockdowns before a rear naked choke ended Benavidez’s night after four minutes and 48 seconds of the fight – the main contest of the latest UFC ‘Fight Island’.
“I’m the guy that everyone wants to beat and I’m the guy everybody is looking at,” said Figueiredo.

The British duo bumped into each other while holidaying in Marbella and spoke for a brief moment when Fury stopped his car. Fury, the WBC and lineal champion, is eager to go to war in the ring with Joshua next year in what would be the first undisputed heavyweight showdown in over 20 years.

Lewis Hamilton wins in Hungary with Max Verstappen second after crash (BBC)
Lewis Hamilton moved into the world championship lead for the first time this season with a dominant victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver pulled out an eight-second lead in three wet laps at the start of the race before switching to dry tyres, and controlled the race from there.
