Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed to youths across the state to conduct themselves peacefully during Saturdayโs local government elections, warning against any form of violence or disruption.
In a statement posted on his X page on Friday, the governor emphasised the importance of youth participation in the democratic process but stressed that such involvement must be peaceful, constructive, and responsible.
โOur youths in particular should shun any form of violence and instead act as ambassadors of peace and democratic responsibility,โ Sanwo-Olu said. Read more
16-year-old student beats teacher to death (Guardian)
A 16-year-old student of UBE Junior Secondary School, Oju Centre, Benue State, has been arrested in connection with the death of his teacher following a confrontation on Thursday.
The student, identified as Friday Ogamude, allegedly attacked his 35-year-old teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, during a dispute reportedly related to a cap that had been confiscated by the teacher in May 2025. The altercation occurred on the school premises in Oju Local Government Area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama first reported the incident via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the teacher collapsed after he was allegedly struck by the student. Read more

The Coronerโs Court inquiring into the death of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba popularly known as Mohbad has ruled out foul play or homicide in his death.
Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi who delivered her findings on Friday at the Magistrate court sitting in Ikorodu, Lagos, however, held that the actions of the auxiliary nurse were both โunlawful and professionally negligent.โ
The coroner recommended the criminal prosecution of the nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe, for medical misadventure or negligence for administering an injection on the singer without a doctorโs prescription. Read more

The Presidency on Friday clarified that Vice-President Kashim Shettima has no issue with President Bola Tinubu over the six-month suspension slammed on Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state in March, this year.
It also justified the action taken by the president to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, saying constitutional steps were duly followed before arriving at that decision to forestall breakdown of law and order in the oil-rich state.

In a press statement issued Friday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the Vice Presidentโs remarks were rooted in constitutional principles and historical precedent. It described the Presidencyโs response as โa mere attempt at political correctnessโ that fails to address the substance of the issue.
โThe truth must not be lost in the fog of political correctness that is currently emanating from Aso Rock,โ the statement said. โWhat made the removal of an elected governor wrong under President Jonathan is the same that makes it wrong under President Tinubu. The president of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said that Nigeriaโs state-owned refineries, located in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna, may never operate properly again despite about $18 billion invested in their rehabilitation.
Alhaji Dangote disclosed this while hosting members of the Global CEO Africa, who visited the Dangote Petroleum Refinery yesterday.
He said the 650,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery was constructed after the government of late President Umar Yarโadua declined to sell the refineries to him. Read more

As an actor on screen since 1989, Davidtz drew on memories of working with directors like Steven Spielberg in Schindler’s List and Robert Altman in The Gingerbread Man while making the feature.
In a recent Zoom interview with UPI, Davidtz, 59, said she realized she’d been learning from Spielberg and other filmmakers when she stepped behind the camera herself.

EU may back national trade bans with Israeli settlements (RTE)
The EU is considering giving its backing to member states that wish to block imports from illegal Israeli settlements at a national level, under measures set to be considered by the bloc next week.
The proposal is one of several options being examined after a review found that Israel was likely in breach of the human rights obligations of the EU-Israel Association Agreement in relation to its war in Gaza.
An options paper prepared by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas concludes that member states could potentially be permitted to block imports from settlements “at their respective national level for public policy reasons”. Read more
