Rak-Su star Myles Stephenson has claimed that Liam Payne occasionally changes his voice after a clip of him speaking after the Oscars went viral.

The โ€œStrip That Downโ€ singer sparked online discussion after he was captured on video speaking about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at Sundayโ€™s ceremony.

Weighing in on the surprising moment, Payne told Good Morning Britain: โ€œI believe whatever he felt that he did, he had the right to do. I also felt there were three losers in one fight.โ€

Yet viewers and commenters on social media were mostly intrigued by the Wolverhampton-born One Direction starโ€™s unfamiliar accent, likening it to a variety of countries including Ireland, the Netherlands and the US.

According to Myles Stephenson, who won The X Factor as part of group Rak-Su in 2017, this was not the first time that Payneโ€™s used a surprising voice.

During an appearance on Capital Xtraโ€™s Tea Time podcast, he referred to the clip from the Oscarsโ€™ red carpet and shared a memory about meeting Payne in the past.

โ€œHeโ€™s done that to me before,โ€ he told hosts Will Njobvu & Yewande Biala. โ€œHe changes his voice. When we [Rak-Su] were on X Factor, he was performing.

โ€œAnd after, we were walking past, he said, โ€˜Helloโ€™. We donโ€™t speak with much etiquette.โ€œHeโ€™s come up to us and said: โ€˜Yes bruv, what are you saying?โ€™โ€ (Independent)
