This weekend, Liverpool’s Premier League title credentials get put to the test when they host Tottenham Hotspur in the key fixture of Round 32 live on DStv.
Liverpool went to the top of the log before the international break when they won a tough clash away to Fulham. The result arrived on the same weekend as the FA Cup quarterfinals, meaning previous leaders Manchester City were not in Premier League action and now have a game in hand on their rivals.
City will want to turn the screw on the Reds with a win away to Fulham on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the round, more than 24 hours before Jurgen Klopp’s sidewalk out the tunnel at Anfield to face Spurs.
The Lilywhites have failed to win any of their last four league clashes and slumped to a 2-1 loss away to Southampton in their latest outing. Mauricio Pochettino’s team are coming under pressure for their place in the top four and need a strong showing against ‘Pool to reassert their ambitions.
Manchester United are also in need of a victory, having suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – the first was in a league clash against Arsenal, the second in the FA Cup quarterfinals against Wolverhampton Wanderers. They host Watford at Old Trafford, with the Hornets fresh from advancing into the Cup semis.
United need a victory to keep up their hopes of finishing in the Champions League places, as they wrestle with Arsenal and Chelsea for the honour. The Gunners will fancy their chances of extending their good form when they host Newcastle United, while the Blues need to bounce back from defeat at Everton when they face Cardiff City in the Welsh capital.
Cardiff are amongst five teams battling to avoid the final relegation spot, along with Burnley, Southampton, Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace. The key match in this narrative will come from the AmEx Stadium, as South Coast sides Brighton and Southampton go to battle.
Burnley have a tough game at home to in-form Wolves, while Palace will fancy their chances of picking up all three points when they host bottom-of-the-log Huddersfield Town at Selhurst Park.
