Kwara State Government will on Monday host global leaders and experts in medical services at a two-day health symposium designed to help develop practical solutions to improve healthcare delivery in the state.

Themed ‘Partnership for Health Innovation: Towards Creating a sustainable health system in Kwara State’, the symposium is scheduled for August 26 and 27 in Ilorin, the state capital, according to a statement by Rafiu Ajakaye, the chief press secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The statement said about 24 local and international healthcare companies will attend the symposium, which is being facilitated on behalf of the government by a world-class professor of neurosurgery and spine surgery, Wale Sulaiman.

“The symposium is designed to be problem-based and solution-oriented with emphasis on healthcare financing through state-wide health insurance, implementation of minimum standard of Primary Health Centres, optimisation of secondary healthcare and development of specialist services in Kwara state,” it added.

The statement said affordable and qualitative healthcare was a strong component of AbdulRazaq’s campaign promises and the latest health symposium, added to the recent release of some N232 million counterpart funds to boost healthcare delivery, shows that the administration remains committed to that goal.

The symposium will bring together global thoughts leaders in the field of healthcare development, organisation, technology, finance and insurance, it added.

The statement said other stakeholders participating in the event include representatives of the Kwara State Ministry of Health, Hospital Medical Directors, Kwara State Nursing, Pharmacy, Laboratory leadership and heads of government health agencies as well as chief executive officers and senior representatives and officials from health and related industries.
