Luis Suarez was persuaded to snub a transfer to Arsenal after an impassioned plea from his former captain Steven Gerrard.
The Uruguay international had his heart set on a move to north London after Arsene Wenger sanctioned an audacious £40,000,001 offer which prompted Liverpool owner John W. Henry to infamously tweet ‘What do you think they’re smoking over there at Emirates?’
Suarez threatened to go on strike but was talked down by Gerrard before enjoying a prolific campaign, spearhead a Liverpool strike-force that came within a whisker of winning a first Premier League title.
