Since breaking out of the corporate world to pursue his passion for fashion in 2010, Mai Atafo has become one of the go to designers for Lagos celebrities. Born Ohimai Atafo in Ile-Ife, Osun State, though of Edo State origin, he grew up in Lagos, Benin and London. He attended Edo State University, Ekpoma, where he bagged a degree in agricultural economics and extension and the City Universitiy, UK for a master’s degree in information system and technology. He returned to Nigeria to work with British American Tobacco and then Guinness Nigeria but his passion, which he is quoted to have said comes from way back while growing up in a home of up to six children, was never far away.
It was the same passion that took him to the Seville Row Academy to further train as a tailor after he resigned from Guinness in 2010.
As a fulltime fashion designer and the brain behind Mai Atafo Inspired and Weddings by Mai, he has not only prospered, he has also inspired countless other young people to take up a career in the fashion industry.
Add his cute family to the list and Mai Atafo is a Lagos Big Boy.
