A 47-year-old man, Sunday Aweta, on Wednesday appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing pumpkin leaves and assault.
Aweta, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing, assault and unlawful use of dangerous weapon.
The Prosecutor, Insp Christian Okonofua, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 10 at about 9 a.m. at Oreyo in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos.
Okonofua alleged that the defendant stole pumpkin leaves, valued N500, belonging to the complainant, one Mrs Chiwendu Uche.
He said the defendant allegedly assaulted the complainant and another woman, Mrs Oluchi Enyiko, by hitting them with a cutlass without any provocation.
The prosecutor further alleged said that the defendant unlawfully cut Enyiko’s right four finger with the cutlass which caused her bodily harm.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287, 170 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs T. A. Shotobi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.She adjourned the case until June 22 for mention. (NAN)
