A 48-year-old man, Moses Essien, was on Wednesday docked at Magistrates’ Court, Zuba, Abuja, for allegedly stealing an electric generating set.
The prosecuting counsel, Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, Adekunle Shoyooyo reported the matter at Zuba Police Station on June 29.
Ogada alleged that the complainant handed over his shop keys to the defendant on June 28 and on the next day he discovered that his shop was open.
He said that the complainant’s generator set valued N300,000 was stolen, adding that the shop was not burgled and the defendant was in possession of the shop keys.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of section 287 of the Penal Code and was punishable under the same code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mr Habiba Bello admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety, resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
Bello ordered that the surety must have a means of livelihood and adjourned the matter until July 15 for hearing.(NAN)
