Man, 69, dies while with woman in Abuja hotel (DailyTrust)
Tragedy struck in Kubwa, a satellite town in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) when a 69-year-old man, identified as Ogunleye Emmanuel, who reportedly went into a brothel with his female friend died.
It was gathered that the incident happened on Monday night at a guest inn in the Pipeline area of Kubwa.
It was learnt that the deceased, a resident of Kubwa, had visited the guest inn to ‘relax’ with one of the ladies at the brothel.
A hotelier in the area who pleaded anonymity while speaking on the incident, said, “the man slumped and died while with the lady.”
The source said the police from Kubwa police station had visited the scene to evacuate the lifeless body of Emmanuel, where they also recovered his driver’s license.
Our reporter was told that, “the police are trying to locate the family of the man, and his body was deposited at the morgue of the Kubwa General Hospital, Abuja.”

Landowner returns UNILAG lecturer’s N6m after Punch report (Punch)
A lecturer at the University of Lagos, Tunde Folorunsho, has received a refund of N6m from a landowner, Rasheed Adetokunbo, after the latter refused to hand over a piece of land the don bought from him in 2021.
Punch Metro had reported that Adetokunbo refused to grant possession of the land to Folorunsho, who paid N6m into his company account, Butos Ventures Limited.
The land was said to be located on Adetokunbo Street, Baruwa-Cardoso, Ipaja.
However, Folorunsho accused the landowner of denying him access to the property despite receiving payment, issuing him a receipt and signing a deed of assignment to him. Read more
Sylvester Omoroni was not treated at any hospital in Delta State – Doctor (Independent)
A medical doctor, Aghogho Henry Owhojede and a witness in the ongoing inquest into the death of Sylvester Omoroni, a student of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos on Tuesday told the court how he died wio receiving any treatment at the hospital.
Dr Owhojede disclosed this while giving evidence before the Coroner, Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri.
Under cross examination by Akin George, a counsel of Lagos State, Dr Owhojede disclosed that the deceased was not treated at any hospital after his arrival in Warri.
The medical doctor said he treated the deceased at home. He also said at a time, he was taken to church for prayers. Read more
Ajasa residents petition LASEPA over threat of pollution (Guardian)
Residents of Ajasa Street, Onikan, Lagos have appealed to Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, (LASEPA) to prevail on owners of a concrete mixing factory located in the area from polluting the environment.
They lamented that emissions from the plant is impacting negatively on their health, daily activities and asked authorities to call the operators to order.
Speaking on their behalf, a resident, Mr. Biyi Bandele, said: “The concrete mixing plant on Ajasa Street and Boyle Street has been spewing toxic, industrial quantities of cement dust into the air in this neighbourhood, which is also home to schools and a hospital, since late 2021.
Also the traffic caused by concrete mixing trucks, the loud noise together and the gritty sand-dust that fills the air, sometimes go on till after 9:00. p.m. I have seen trucks using the Ajasa Street entrance to the plant even at 11:p.m. My apartment and that of neighbours are directly located opposite the factory and the activity is impacting negatively on us.” Read more
Lekki port will end Apapa gridlock, says Sanwo-Olu (Punch)
The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the completion of the Lekki Port will put an end to Apapa gridlock and the congestion along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
The governor said this on Tuesday during the Africa Business Convention, held on Victoria Island.
Sanwo-Olu said, “The final solution to Apapa gridlock will be the completion of Lekki Port. Several measures would be put in place to ensure that Apapa is congestion-free, one of which is to change the officials regularly to ensure there is no compromise in services rendered.
“As I speak, several landmark public and private infrastructure and investment projects are underway or nearing completion in Lagos State; the biggest single-train petroleum refinery in the world, one of the largest rice mills in the world, one of the largest and most modern deep-sea ports on the continent, and West Africa’s biggest light rail network. Within the next 24 months, we expect all of these to be operational.” Read more
Veteran Yoruba actor, Tafa Oloyede dies (Independent)
Mr. John Adewuni Yoruba movie veteran (popularly known as Tafa Oloyede) is dead.
The Ede, Osun State-born actor, who ventured into acting in 1974, died on Tuesday, after a brief illness.
Confirming the incident, General Secretary, Theater Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Osun Branch, Ademola Oyedokun said the actor died at his Arowomole residence in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
“The late John Adewuni had his tutelage under the late Oyin Adejobi. He featured in many movies including ‘Jaiyesimi’, ‘Ayanmo’, ‘Ekuro Oloja’, ‘Orogun’, ‘Akanji Oniposi’ that made him popular and others. Read more

A coalition of Muslim organizations yesterday said there was a “sinister design” to frustrate the education of Muslim girl-child over what it called the “persistent discrimination” against the use of Hijab.
The coalition comprising 20 Muslim organizations in Lagos made the declaration during a press conference to commemorate the World Hijab Day held at the Lagos Secretariat Central Mosque.
The coalition however urged the president, governors, the National Assembly and state assemblies as well as the Judiciary and all regulatory authorities “to uphold the provisions of the constitution and other relevant laws, to ensure that Hijab wearing Muslim Women are not harassed and discriminated against.”
Executive Director, Hijab Rights Advocacy Initiative, Hajia Mutiat Orolu-Balogun, who addressed newsmen on behalf of other 20 Islamic organizations, declared that they would not back down in their advocacy against discriminating of Hijab wearing Muslim women. Read more

Sponsored by Senator Adeyemi Oriolowo, the bill was read for the first time during Tuesday’s plenary in the Senate chamber of the National Assembly in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It is titled ‘Compulsory Inclusion of Nigerian History in the Curriculum of Secondary and Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria Bill, 2022”.
Others introduced and read the first time include Federal University of Agriculture Sabongida Lantang, Plateau State (Establishment) Bill, 2022 by the Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, and Federal University of Entrepreneur Onitsha (Establishment) Bill, 2022 by Senator Stella Oduah. Ogoni clean-up may take more than 10 years to complete, says minister (Nation)
The controversial Ogoni Clean-Up project may take more than 10 years to complete, Minister of State for Environment, Sharon Ikeazor, said.
The clean-up of Ogoniland was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari in June 2016.
Ikeazor, who spoke yesterday at her ministry’s 2022 ministerial press briefing in Abuja, said the government is working to hand over to the people a clean environment to live in.
She added that the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) is still the consultant in charge of the project. Read more

Martial arts expert and stuntman Bob Wall, best known for playing henchman O’Hara opposite Bruce Lee in the 1973 martial arts classic “Enter the Dragon,” has died. Wall was 82.
Wall died on Sunday in Los Angeles, according to a statement issued by Wall’s family to The Hollywood Reporter. The cause of death was not revealed.
“He was a pillar of strength and inspiration to all who encountered him, and his radiant spirit and legacy will never be forgotten,” the statement said. “He was a brilliant martial artist, a never-ending source of jokes, a gifted speaker and a passionate man whose unconditional love and support were unmatched.”
Along with “Enter the Dragon,” Hall starred in two other Bruce Lee Films, “The Way of the Dragon” (1972) and “Game of Death” (1978). Read more

Simon Cowell “broke his arm,” but was not seriously injured following another accident on his electric motorbike last week, Page Six can confirm.
A source told us Tuesday the “America’s Got Talent” judge, 62, was riding the bike when he “slipped off” and fell, but he is “OK.”
A second source added, “He’s doing well and is healing at home.”
The Sun reported that Cowell was “lucky to be alive” since he was propelled off the bike after driving 20 mph and was not wearing a helmet.

New James Joyce artefacts and personal letters donated to university (DailyMail)
A new collection of books, documents and artefacts belonging to pioneering 20th-century writer James Joyce will shed light on his close relationship with his protege Samuel Beckett, experts have said.
Joyce’s son, Stephen James Joyce, and his wife Solange, have donated letters and telegrams between the two influential Irish writers, along with personal items including pens, rings, and a manuscript of his poetry collection, to the University of Reading.
The donations will be accessible to anyone via appointment with the university’s collections service, alongside its existing Samuel Beckett Collection.
A telegram sent by Beckett to the Ulysses author in Paris on his 49th birthday is among the items in the collection, which reads: ‘Teems of times and happy returns. Beckett’. Read more

The multiple-award winning Highlife musician kick starts his tour in Providence, Rhode Island on March 4, 2022 with two other successive concerts in Phoenix, Arizona and Worcester on March 5 and 6 respectively.
Bisa Kdei is also billed to perform in a series of concerts in Michigan, Dallas, North Dakota and Philadelphia later in March.

Team Lagos and Ekiti states recently emerged winners of the male and female’s categories at the South-West U-12 Handball Championship held on the Ilaji Hotel and Sport Resort, Ilaji, Oyo State.
The Lagos boys, who defeated their Osun State counterpart 18-2, overwhelmed their opponents to show their supremacy. The State of Excellence’s performance was made possible through the inspiration of the player of the tournament, Dominion Duru. Team Lagos had earlier beaten Ogun 14-11 in the semi finals.
In the female’s class, the Ekiti’s team proved their superiority over Team Oyo, who they walloped 13-5, to secure victory in the one-sided clash.

Greater Manchester Police said they had detained a suspect on Sunday after they were made aware of online social media posts by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
The allegations against Greenwood — including video, photographs and a voice note — were posted on Instagram on Sunday and later deleted.
“Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman,” Greater Manchester Police said in a statement. Read more

Regis ‘Rougarou’ Prograis believes undefeated WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo 32-0 (22) has the style to beat Mexican superstar Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez 57-1-2 (39) if the fight can be made.
The 31-year-old Charlo who boxes out of Houston, Texas is one option being considered for undisputed super middleweight champion Alvarez, 31, in May. That would be a one fight deal with PBC to be broadcast on pay-per-view.
