24-year-old arraigned for robbery, cultism (Punch)
A 24-year-old man, Ekeng Effiong, was on Monday remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre by an Ikeja Magistrate’s court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State, for alleged attempted robbery and forming an unlawful society.
Magistrate Mrs Akinyemi gave the order after the defendant, who was facing three counts bordering on armed robbery and forming an unlawful society.
The police prosecutor, Mr Ibo Daniel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 14, 2023.
He said the defendant allegedly used stones with other weapons to damage the side glasses of a Volkswagen bus with registration no: KRD 395 Y in an attempt to rob Aiyewunmi Sunday “m” who was travelling with his family to Ogun State.
Transport worker stabs colleague to death in Lagos (Punch)
A transport worker, Ibrahim Yahaya, has allegedly stabbed his colleague, Kabiru Abdullahi, to death during an argument at the Kanuri Motor Park, in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Yahaya and Kabiru were at the park when an argument ensued between them.
The argument was said to have degenerated into a fight and in the process, Kabiru brought out a knife and allegedly stabbed Yahaya’s head.
Following the attack, Yahaya left the scene and quickly sought treatment for himself on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Read more
Lagos man remanded for allegedly defiling 15-year-old girl (Punch)
An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State on Monday remanded a 40-year-old man, George Ukpong, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl in the state.
Magistrate E. Kubenje made the order after the defendant who is facing one count bordering on defilement preferred against him by the police was arraigned.
The police prosecutor, Raimi Idowu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 19, 2023.
He said the defendant allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim in the Shasha area of the state. Read more
NSCDC recovers 3,896 litres of petrol in bush (Punch)
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Lagos State has confirmed the recovery of 3,896 litres of stolen Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol from suspected oil thieves in the Badagry area of the state.
The Public Relations Officer of the agency in the state, Olumide Abolurin, in a statement on Monday, said the fuel was found in a bush at Epeme village, in the Olorunda Local Council Development Area of Badagry, on Saturday, February 18, 2023.
Abolurin said, “On account of the 24-hour routine patrol, intelligence gathering, surveillance, monitoring of critical national assets and infrastructure, the corps’ operatives discovered petroleum products suspected to be stolen by economic saboteurs and kept in a bush path at Epeme village, in the Olorunda LCDA of Badagry, on Saturday, February 18, 2023, around 1.35 am during the wee hours. Chrisland: Whitney’s autopsy done, police await result (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has said the autopsy to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a pupil of Chrisland International School, Whitney Adeniran, has been done.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Monday, however, said the result of the autopsy was yet to be out simply because the toxicology report on the case was still being awaited.
“The autopsy for the Chrisland pupil has been done but the result is not out. We are waiting for a toxicology report,” Hundeyin said.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the Lagos State Government shut the school as an investigation commenced to ascertain Whitney’s cause of death during the inter-house sports organised by the school at the Agege Stadium, in the Agege area of the state. Read more
Lagos men remanded for stealing, arms possession (Punch)
A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Yaba, Lagos State, has remanded two suspects, Giwa Owolabi and Adeniyi Oyedeji, for alleged theft using arms and charms in the Lekki area of the state.
The Lagos State Police Command arraigned the suspects before Magistrate O.Y Adefope on three counts of armed robbery and unlawful possession of cartridges.
The duo, alongside a fleeing suspect identified simply as Inspector, had on December 30, 2022, carried out a robbery attack using a white minibus, charms and 11 rounds of live cartridges at Lekki, in the Ajah area of the state.
The police prosecutor, Magaji Haruna, told the court the offences were punishable under Sections 411, 330(d) and 297(1) (2) (b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015. Read more
Men in court for stealing Lagos chief’s N39.3m property (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned four suspects for breaking into the palace of a chief, Shefiu Olamiji, and stealing property worth over N39.3m on the premises of the building at Okegun village, in the Ibeju Lekki area of the state.
The suspects, Rafiu Taibu, 51, Semiu Ogunkoya, 39, Kazeem Ogunkoya, 46, Akeem Adeboyega, and others at large, were arraigned on four counts bordering on stealing, malicious damage and conducts likely to cause a breach of peace, among others preferred against them by the police.
They were arraigned on February 15, 2023, before Magistrate L.A. Owolabi.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Igbinedion James, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on July 1, 2020. Read more
Lagos court sentences Malian to 2 years over possession of Marijuana (Guardian)
Justice Tijjani Ringim of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, has convicted and sentenced a Malian, Mohammed Dambele, to two years imprisonment, for being in possession of a herbal drink laced with Cannabis Sativa, popularly called Marijuana.
The judge sentenced Dambele to two years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to one-count amended charge brought against him by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The prosecutor, Paul Awogbuyi, had told the court that the convict was arrested on September 27, 2022, at Ebute-Ero jetty, Lagos Island, Lagos, with 400 bottles of Al Hil herbal mixture, popularly known as “akuskura”. Read more
Court sentences Lagos teacher to life jail for defiling school pupil (Guardian)
A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, yesterday, sentenced a 41-year-old teacher, Chukwu Ndubuisi, to life imprisonment for defiling a six-year-old pupil of Mind Builders School, Lagos.
Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya sentenced Ndubuisi after finding him guilty of a one-count charge of child defilement filed against him by the Lagos State government.
The judge, who held that the prosecution had proved his case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt, said the quality of evidence against the defendant was compelling.
Justice Ogunsanya held that the defendant usually sent the survivor’s friend to call her and that the first time the defendant defiled her was in the female toilet, adding that the second time was in the art room. Read more
Lagos: 20-year-old man gets death sentence for armed robbery (Guardian)
Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of a Lagos Special Offences Court, Ikeja, yesterday, sentenced a 20-year-old man, Nojeem Badmos, to death by hanging for armed robbery.
The judge sentenced the convict after finding him guilty as charged by the prosecution.
The judge held that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt the ingredients of the two-count charge of conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery.
The state had charged him for conspiracy and armed robbery contrary to the provisions of sections 299 and 297 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
Normalcy returns to Ikorodu after army, police clash over soldier’s murder (Guardian)
Normalcy, on Friday, returned to Ogijo and Odogunyan communities, Ikorodu, after the killing of a soldier by a police corporal.
The Guardian gathered that the soldier was stabbed to death by a police corporal at Odogunyan Bus Stop during a fight.
Although the cause of the fight was not known, it was learnt that the Corporal attached to the
Police Mobile Force fatally stabbed the soldier who was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.
Immediately the incident took place, the policeman was apprehended by onlookers and was beaten to stupor before the soldiers whisked him away to the barrack.
Hoodlums attack motorists in Lagos (Nation)
Hoodlums on Friday morning attacked motorists in some areas on the popular Lagos-Ikorodu expressway in Lagos State over scarcity of the new naira notes.
It was learnt they took to the roads in Mile 12, Ketu and Ojota areas on the expressway, attacking commuters and creating chaos.
Tweeps alleged they could hear sounds of gunshots.

Cash scarcity: Security operatives quell Lagos protests (Nation)
Attempts by hoodlums to cause violent uprising in Lagos over the cash scarcity were on Friday morning botched by sporadic gunshots from security operatives.
Miscreants at the early hours attacked commuters and motorists around the Mile 12- Ojota axis of the State.
It was gathered that parents taking their kids to schools and those going to work between 6am and 8am had to cancel their appointments as the hoodlums freely used dangerous weapons and took advantage of the chaos to rob victims.
They were said to have barricaded the roads, made bonfires with tires and vandalised vehicles that refused to detour. Read more
