72-year-old man bags life imprisonment for defiling minor (Punch)
A 72-year-old man, David Jackson, has been found guilty of defiling his neighbour’s 12-year-old daughter and has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
This is according to a statement on X.com by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency on Wednesday.
The statement noted that Jackson will be registered as a sexual offender in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State. Read more
Lagos school bus driver bags life jail for defiling 3-year-old (Punch)
Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, in Lagos, on Tuesday, sentenced a school bus driver, Michael Mowete, to life imprisonment for defiling a three-year-old child.
The judge held that the prosecution was able to discharge the burden of proof against Mowete.
He said that the convict’s allegation of having an amorous relationship with the mother of the victim in her shop did not hold water as one of the defence witnesses, the school bus assistant, told the court that the convict was always in the bus whenever they dropped off the victim at her mother’s shop. Vulcaniser arraigned for alleged N10m car theft in Lagos (Punch)
The Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, Lagos State on Monday remanded 42-year-old vulcaniser Saheed Azeez for allegedly selling a car worth N10m that he was asked to sell and converted the money for personal use.
He was arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope.
He was charged with two counts of behaving in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by selling a vehicle that did not belong to him, and theft. Read more
Police foil Lagos kidnapping plot, kill 9 suspects (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has said nine members of a notorious kidnapping gang who had plotted to abduct some wealthy persons in the state were killed during its operation at Ladipo.
A source had told City Round that some shootings took place at Oloje Street, Papa Ajao, area of Mushin, on Thursday night which they thought was cult-related.
The source said, “There was pandemonium in our area when we heard some shootings at the Papa Ajao area yesterday night, and it was a shoot-out.
We thought it was cult activity in the area that seemed to be engaging the police in a shoot-out. We heard six of these criminals were dropped.” Read more
Driver bags 12 years jail for killing LASTMA officer (Punch)
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Thursday convicted and sentenced a commercial bus driver, Elijah Shokoya, to 12 years imprisonment for killing an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency.
Justice Oyindamola Ogala sentenced Shokoya after finding him guilty of the offence of manslaughter.
The judge held that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt the one count of the manslaughter of the LASTMA officer, Olawale Akinmade, who died on Wednesday, January 27, 2012. Read more
Fraudster scams Lagos teenager impregnated by fleeing boyfriend (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command, on Thursday, said it prevented a 19-year-old girl from killing herself with a substance suspected to be insecticide after losing her hard-earned money to a fraudster and being abandoned by the man who impregnated her in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, said policemen attached to the Ikorodu Area Command rescued the lady following a tip-off.

School proprietress, 2 children remanded for allegedly torturing minor (Punch)
Chief Magistrate Bolanle Osunsanmi of the Ogba Magistrate Court has remanded the Proprietress of Cradle of Wisdom School, Mrs Clifford Ikpinkpini and her two children to be remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre over alleged torture and inhuman treatment of a 10-year-old pupil of the school.
The magistrate ordered the remand of the trio pending the perfection of their bail after their arraignment before the court.
The proprietress and her two children, Okeisoprugwe Ikpinkpini, 34, and Okorie Ikpinkpini, 37, were arraigned by the police on four counts bordering on subjecting a pupil to inhuman treatment, torturing and abstraction of justice. Read more
Online influencer arraigned for allegedly assaulting wife in Lagos (Punch)
The Lagos State Government, through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, on Thursday, charged a popular online influencer, Suraj Oyewale, known as #SirJarus, to court for allegedly assaulting his wife.
The DSVA announced that #SirJarus had been arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court 5 on two counts: one for alleged assault against his wife, and another for conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

India-bound drug trafficker jailed 25 years (Nation)
A drug trafficker, Freeman Charles Ogbonna, has been sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment by a Federal High Court.
Its Director, Media and Advocacy of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Femi Babafemi, made this known in a statement in Abuja yesterday.
This comes three months after vomiting and 80 wraps of cocaine, following his arrest by operatives of the agency at the screening point of Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos.
Police nab car snatching gang (Nation)
The Lagos State Police Command has dismantled a notorious robbery gang, which specialises in car theft, following a tactical operation led by their Surulere unit.
The gang, comprising six members, includes two dismissed soldiers, one dismissed in 2014 and the other in 2017. The suspects have been operating across the state, disguising themselves in military attire.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said in an interview that the gang had been under investigation. Read more
