A 31-year-old hotel attendant, Roy Albert, who allegedly stole N860,000 from his employer, on Wednesday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and fraud.
The prosecutor, ASP Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 8, at Jeron Hotel, located at No. 20, Adewusi St., Ikotun-Egbe, Ikotun, Lagos.
According to him, the defendant stole N860,000 belonging to his employer, one Mr Jeremiah Onaifete.
He alleged that the defendant also fraudulently obtained a credit of N58,000 from the employer but failed to refund the money.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287(7) and 315(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.The Magistrate, Miss K. A. Ariyo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties should be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate adjourned the case until June 14 for mention. (NAN)
