Bananarama hopes that the music industry is ‘a little less sexist now’ (MusicNews)

Bananarama hopes that the music industry is “a little less sexist now.”

The pop duo – which comprises Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward – shot to fame alongside former member Siobhan Fahey back in 1982 and were listed in the Guinness World Records for achieving the world’s highest number of chart entries by an all-female group but Keren admitted that life in music was “more difficult” for women during their heyday.

She said: “I think it was more difficult [for women] then. I’d like to think the music industry is a little less sexist now but looking back, I realised that we had to work a little harder and be a bit more determined [than men.] It was that old thing that if we wanted to do something and we said ‘Oh we’re not doing that’, or ‘We want to do that’, were termed as difficult and I think if we had been male it would have been ‘Oh God, they’re so rock and roll. Lots of little things added up really!”

The ‘Venus’ hitmakers released their greatest hits album ‘Masquerade’ on Friday (22.07.22) in celebration of their 40th anniversary and will support the record with two intimate London shows in August, but Sara admitted that the pair never expected to still be on the go so many years down the line. Sixers’ Filip Petrusev will remain stashed for next season (SportsIllustrated)

Daryl Morey changed the narrative about himself on draft night through his first two NBA Drafts with the Philadelphia 76ers. In the past, Morey had a reputation for selling draft picks rather than making selections when he was with the Houston Rockets.

But with his first few picks through two drafts in Philly, Morey brought on several young prospects coming out of college, beginning with the Kentucky standout Tyrese Maxey.

After Maxey was selected 21st overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, Morey used two more selections in the second round to land the young sharpshooter Isaiah Joe and the forward/center hybrid, Paul Reed.

After a successful 2020 NBA Draft, Morey stuck to drafting in 2021. In the first round, the Sixers picked Tennessee youngster Jaden Springer. In the second round, they double-dipped on bigs and grabbed Charles Bassey and the Gonzaga standout Filip Petrusev. Read more

Noah Lyles sets U.S. sprinting record, claims world title (UPI)

Noah Lyles broke a 26-year-old record held by famed sprinter Michael Johnson en route to a stunning win in the 200-meter final to claim a title for the United States at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Lyles scorched down the track and clocked an American-record time of 19.31 seconds to win the event late Thursday at Hayward Field. The time just edged Johnson’s 19.32, which set a then-world record at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta. That mark is now held by Jamaica’s Usain Bolt (19.19).

Lyles stared at the clock after he crossed the finish line, as his time was first listed at 19.32 and was tied with Johnson. He then turned his back just before officials changed his time to 19.31.

“I knew it was coming,” Lyles told reporters. “I’ve just been waiting for it for a few months now. I finally got my start down to where I wanted it to. I knew it was going to be the day.” Read more
