Man bags life jail for defilement of 2 minors (Punch)
The Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja, on Tuesday, convicted a man, Ndedigwe Paul, to double life imprisonment for sexual assault of minors, following a comprehensive trial that sought justice for the victims.
The convict was handed down the sentence by Justice Abiola Soladoye on January 30, 2024, who, after a careful consideration of the evidence presented, found the defendant guilty on two out of the three-count charges of defilement and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor contravening Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
According to a report, Ndedigwe lured the victims who were in kindergarten class and ages six and seven respectively at that time into his room and had unlawful sexual intercourse with them. PUNCH Metro gathered that he engaged in the indecent act by inserting his finger in the victims’ private parts, and having carnal knowledge of the victims individually while the other watched. Man arrested for alleged assault on ex-wife with stone (Punch)
One Mary Ololuwa was allegedly injured on the face by her ex-husband, Olamilekan Morekeji, when she refused to provide him with information on his children.
PUNCH Metro learnt that both individuals had been experiencing constant problems together, which ultimately resulted in a divorce.
It was also learnt that the incident occurred on January 25 at about 2:00 pm.
Alleged murder: Chidinma confessed to spiking Ataga’s drink, says witness (Punch)
A prosecution witness, DSP Olusegun Bamidele, in the ongoing alleged murder trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, on Monday, told a Lagos State High Court at the Tafawa Balewa Square, that it was during investigation that they found out that the Super TV CEO, Michael Ataga’s drink was spiked.
Ojukwu, a 300-level, Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, is standing trial for the alleged offence alongside one Adedapo Quadri and her sister, Chioma Egbuchu.
At the last adjourned date, Bamidele told the court that during his investigation, Ojukwu confessed that she spiked Ataga’s drink. Read more
Bribery: Lagos CP probes DPO (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has ordered a probe into the bribery allegation preferred against the Epe Divisional Police Officer, Godwin Okoruwa.
The command also said it had ordered the officer to “step aside” pending the termination of the investigation.

Lagos tenant hospitalised as landlady breaks into apartment (Punch)
Olanike, the wife of a car dealer, Ayodeji Soetan, has been hospitalised after their landlady, Juliet Akano, allegedly vandalised and broke into his apartment at Tijani Bello in the Ojodu area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened at about 11 am on Wednesday, January 24.
Speaking with our correspondent on Sunday, Soetan said Akano stormed the premises of the two-storey building in the company of some suspected thugs.
NDLEA declares beauty queen wanted, nabs Brazil returnee (Punch)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has declared an ex-beauty queen, Oluwadamilola Aderinoye, wanted over suspected illicit drug dealing.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect, who held the title of Miss Commonwealth Nigeria Culture 2015/2016 and is also the founder of the Queen Christmas Foundation, was declared wanted on Sunday according to a statement by Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy.
The declaration came after Oluwadamilola allegedly fled her Lekki estate to evade operatives who had received intelligence suggesting her involvement in illicit substance dealings. Read more
Woman arrested for alleged trafficking of 42 children (Punch)
A 45-year-old Alimot Haruna has been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly smuggling 42 northern children into Lagos without their parents’ consent.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Alimot intended to compel all 42 children into child labour and trafficking.
It was also learnt that the incident occurred on January 25 at about 5:45 pm.
A police source told our correspondent that the three underage children, two females and one male whose name could not be confirmed, were rescued by detectives while monitoring her movements. Read more
Outrage as teacher allegedly flogs Lagos pupil to death (Punch)
Pandemonium erupted at Araromi Ilogbo Secondary School in Oko Afo, Lagos, as pupils of the school protested the demise of one of their colleagues who was allegedly flogged to death by a teacher.
The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday when the deceased, identified as David Babadipo, was allegedly flogged by the teacher whose name was given as Oluwale.
It was gathered that the 16-year-old who had been ill for some days was rushed to a hospital after he was flogged where he was confirmed dead. Read more
Saviour bags life imprisonment in Lagos for defiling wife’s 14-year-old niece (Guardian)
Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced a man identified as Richard Saviour to life imprisonment for defiling his wife’s 14-year-old niece.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) in a statement on Wednesday revealed that Saviour even infected the teenager with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The DSVA further said that the convict’s name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register as maintained by Lagos State. Read more

Three docked over N15M. A thrift collector, a recharge card vendor and a job seeker yesterday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding a man of N15 million.
The three defendants – Korede Adeleke, 19, Duru Charles, 26, and Florence Oyeniyi, 18 – all residents of Orile Agege, pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing, fraud and forgery preferred against them by the police.

Drama as suspect attempted suicide outside court room (Nation)
Amild drama ensued yesterday at Ikeja High Court as a suspect, Ayoko Oluwatobi, 25, attempted to commit suicide following his failure to secure bail.
