Man stabs pastor over fake prophecy in Lagos (DailyTrust)
The police in Lagos State have arrested a 26-year-old man, one Akpannu, for allegedly cutting a pastor with a machete for allegedly giving him a fake prophecy.
The accused was alleged to have in May, 2023, cut the pastor of one of the new generation churches, Prophet Anayochukwu, for allegedly giving him a fake prophecy.
The incident was said to have happened at the church’s headquarters in the Ijesha area of Lagos. Read more

The Federal Government, yesterday, allayed fears of motorists and residents on the safety and stability of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. The assurance followed a photo clip spreading fears about the bridge.
Picture of the third mainland Bridge pile-cap being chiselled out by vandals so they can cut and sell the reinforcement bars, surfaced in the social media on Tuesday, thereby sparking fears among residents.
But reacting to the situation on the telephone, a senior director in the Ministry of Works and Housing, told The Guardian that there is no cause for alarm. Akume assumes duty, gets report of judicial panel report on Magu, others (Tribune)
The newly appointed Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume on Wednesday assumed duty in his office as 21st SGF in Nigeria, hours after he was sworn in by the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Akume who was accompanied by the former Governors of Kebbi and Jigawa states, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and Mohammed Badaru respectively was received by senior officials and staff in the SGF office.
He received a handover note from the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, including a report from the Judicial Commission of Inquiry for the investigation of Mr Ibrahim Magu, the former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Abia to rehabilitate baby factory victims (Punch)
The wife Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has said appropriate action is being undertaken to rehabilitate the inmates rescued from a baby factory located at Umunkpeyi, Nvosi, in the Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state.
Mrs Otti gave the assurance when she paid an unscheduled visit to the rescued young girls at Madonna College of Health Technology, Olokoro, Umuahia, where they are being taken care of.
The wife of the governor, who expressed sadness over the incident, described the development as heartbreaking, adding, however, that the government was providing care temporarily for the baby factory victims. Read more

Auckland Airport’s price hike vexes Air NZ, Qantas (FlightGlobal)
Air New Zealand and Qantas Airways have opposed Auckland Airport’s plan to sharply boost aeronautical charges to pay for a new domestic terminal.
For the five-year period starting 1 July, domestic jet travel, regional airline, and international charges will all rise, according to the airport.
Domestic jet travel and international charges will more than double from NZ$6.75 ($4.09) now to NZ$15.45 by the 2027 financial year; international charges will rise from NZ$23.40 to NZ$46.10. Read more
Actor known for Bob’s Burgers character arrested on Capitol riot charges (TimesOfIsrael)
An actor known for his roles on the comedy television shows Bob’s Burgers and Mr. Show with Bob and David was arrested Wednesday on charges that he joined a mob of Donald Trump supporters in confronting police officers during the US Capitol riot, court records show.
Jay Johnston, 54, of Los Angeles, was arrested there on charges including civil disorder, a felony. A federal magistrate judge agreed to free Johnston on $25,000 bond after his initial court appearance in California. A public defender who represented him at the hearing declined to comment.
Video footage captured Johnston pushing against police and helping rioters who attacked officers guarding an entrance to the Capitol in a tunnel on the Lower West Terrace, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit. Johnston held a stolen police shield over his head and passed it to other rioters during the attack on Jan. 6, 2021, the affidavit says. Read more

The US National Weather Service issued air quality alerts for virtually the entire Atlantic seaboard. Health from Vermont to South Carolina and as far west as Ohio and Kansas warned residents that spending time outdoors could cause respiratory problems due to high levels of fine particulates in the atmosphere.

Eagle-eyed driver saves 15 tourists from Bangkok bus inferno (StraitsTimes)
Fifteen tourists and their Thai guide had a lucky escape on Wednesday morning when their tour bus was engulfed in flames as it left the Thai capital of Bangkok for Ayutthaya.
Bus driver Kuanchit said he noticed smoke coming out from the luggage compartment at around 8am Wednesday, soon after picking up a Polish tour group from Bangkok Palace Hotel.
The bus had entered an elevated section of the Si Rat Expressway in Chatuchak district when it caught fire. Read more

Every player at the upcoming Women’s World Cup will be paid at least £24,000 by FIFA – more than the annual salary many get from their clubs.
The details confirmed on Wednesday by FIFA fulfils a promise made in March to financially reward the 732 players taking part in the tournament hosted by Australia and New Zealand, with the 23 players in the title-winning team each taking home £217,000.

Rory McIlroy, the loudest voice against Saudi-funded LIV Golf that caused so much disruption in the sport, said Wednesday he now feels like a “sacrificial lamb” with the stunning reversal of the PGA Tour becoming partners with Saudi Arabia’s enormous wealth fund.
It was McIlroy who helped lead a players-only meeting last August that reshaped the PGA Tour to fend off the challenge of LIV Golf. He has been the most vocal critic, a member of the tour’s policy board. And he was among the last to hear the news shortly before it broke.
