Police declare man wanted for girlfriend’s death (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has declared one Benjamin Nnanyereugo wanted for the death of his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion.

The police, in a statement on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said Nnanyereugo was suspected to have murdered the 21-year-old lady on July 13, 2023, in his home at Oral Estate in the Ajah area of the state.

Hundeyin noted that the suspect was declared wanted after efforts to arrest him were unsuccessful. Read more

Father in court for sexually molesting 2 underage sons (Punch)

A 38-year-old man, Afeez Gbadamosi, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence court by the Lagos State Government for allegedly sexually molesting his two underage sons who are between ages three and seven.

Gbadamosi is facing four counts of sexual assault and indecent behaviour preferred against him by the state.

The state prosecuting counsel, Abimbola Abolade, told the court that the incident occurred sometime between 2021 and 2022. Read more

Bolanle Raheem: Court sentences ASP to death for murder (Punch)

The Lagos High Court Sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island, on Monday, sentenced the suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi, who killed a Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs. Omobolanle Raheem, to death by hanging.

Justice Ibironke Harrison sentenced the ASP after finding him guilty of the murder of the pregnant lawyer.

Harrison held that the prosecution was able to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. Read more

Police arraign 6 men for alleged burglary, theft (Punch)

The police on Friday, arraigned six men before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state for allegedly breaking into a compound with intent to steal.

The defendants are Salisu Musa, 36; Awolu Isa, 48; Sanni Ibrahim, 28; Suraju Yunusa, 36; Habibu Yunus 28 and Usman Musa, 28.

The six are standing trial before Magistrate L.K.J Layeni, on a five-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing. Read more

Guards foil suspect’s attempt to raid Lagos bank (Punch)

A team of security guards has foiled an attempted robbery on a new-generation bank in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, around 10pm.

It was learnt that the robber bypassed the main entrance of the bank and gained entry into the banking hall through the ceiling. Read more

Steward bags life imprisonment for defiling employer’s children (Punch)

A steward, Happiness Sunday, was on Thursday convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his employer’s children, who are aged 10 and eight.

Justice Abiola Soladoye handed down the life sentence to Sunday, who had served as both steward and gateman with the family of the victims.

The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment on each of the three counts which bordered on defilement and sexual assault by penetration. Read more

Police recover car stolen from Anambra in Lagos (Punch)

Men of the Zone 2 Police Command, Lagos have arrested a suspect, Ugomsinachi Maxwell, who allegedly belongs to a gang that specialises in snatching cars at gunpoint.

He was said to have been arrested in Lagos while trying to sell a car he snatched in Anambra State.

The Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Hauwa Adamu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday. Read more

Businessmen arraigned for alleged N47.5m theft  (Punch)

Three businessmen appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court on Thursday over the alleged theft of 375 bags of sesame seed valued at N47.5 million.

The three men, Ime Essien, 49, Nnamdi Obianuka, 36, and Chidera Stephen, 21, live in Lagos and are being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on August 8 at No 9, Wharf Road, Apapa, Lagos. Read more

Man bags life imprisonment for defiling 4-year-old in church (Punch)

A man, Ifeanyi Ndieze, who sexually assaulted a four-year-old child in a church in Lagos was on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.

Justice Abiola Soladoye handed down the verdict after finding Ndieze guilty of the offence.

Soladoye held that the prosecution proved the charge of sexual assault by penetration against the convict. Read more

Family of lady killed in Lagos apartment demands justice (Punch)

The family of slain Foejiro Ojite have asked police authorities to ensure that her killers are brought to book.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Foejiro, 31, was killed in her apartment in the Agiliti area of Ketu in Lagos on July 27, 2023.

After allegedly slitting her throat, her assailants also set the apartment on fire. 

The smoke from the building alerted neighbours who forced the door open and discovered her lifeless body on the floor with her hand burnt. Read more

Customs arrest suspected wildlife smuggler (Punch)

The Federal Operations Unit, Zone A Ikeja of the Nigeria Customs Service, said it has arrested Mr Felix Maiva, a suspected wildlife smuggling kingpin.

In a statement on Friday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Theophilus Duniya, said that Maiva has been on the run since 2021.

Duniya explained that the arrest was a fallout of the discovery of a 20-foot container loaded with wildlife en route Vietnam through Apapa Port in 2021. Read more

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday remanded a man, Stephen Monday at the correctional centre for allegedly defiling his lover’s four-year-old daughter.

Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded Monday after he took his plea.

Housekeeper jailed 14 years for stealing from employer (Punch)

An Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute-Metta, on Thursday, sentenced a housekeeper Emmanuel Robson, to 14 years imprisonment for stealing various sums of money from his employer.

Magistrate Oluwatosin Erinle sentenced Robson after he pleaded guilty to 15 counts.

Erinle held that the jail term should run consecutively. 

Earlier, the convict who was arraigned before the court was accused of breaking into his employer’s master bedroom to steal a security key kept in the store. Read more 

Man bags 14 years imprisonment for robbing bartender (Punch)

A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja on Tuesday sentenced a man, Felix Ayeye, to 14 years imprisonment for stabbing and robbing a bartender, Jones Adewoye, of his phone and other items worth N78,000.

Justice Modupe Nico-Clay handed down the verdict to the convict after he opted for a plea bargain, though the trial had commenced in November 2022 before Ayeye opted for a plea bargain.

The convict, who had earlier pleaded not guilty to two counts bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery and armed robbery preferred against him by the Lagos State Government on Tuesday, changed his plea to guilty. Read more

Vulcaniser bags life imprisonment for defiling 15-year-old girl (Punch)

A 41-year-old vulcaniser, Wasiu Ibrahim, was on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for defiling his wife’s 15-year-old niece.

Justice Rahman Oshodi who handed down the verdict held that the prosecution sufficiently proved the charge of defilement against Ibrahim.

According to the prosecution, the convict committed the offence on January 26, 2017, around 2am at 61, Abeokuta Street, Ogba, Lagos. Read more

Navy foils criminals’ attempt to smuggle N235m cannabis sativa through Lagos waterways (Vanguard)

The Nigerian Navy has foiled attempts by some criminals to convey Cannabis Sativa through the Lagos waterways into communities in the state, recovering illicit substances worth N235 million.

The recovery was made by the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, and the Forward Operating Base, FOB, Badagry, respectively, in Iworo, Ibeju, Pako Beach seaside and other communities in the state.

The substance gathered was concealed in 93 bags. A breakdown of the figure revealed that 66 bags estimated at N200 million were recovered by the NNS Beecroft and 27 bags valued at N37 million by the FOB Badagry. Read more 

Police rescue 23-year-old lady from fraudsters in Lagos (Guardian)

The timely intervention of operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have saved a 23-year-old lady from fraudsters, who were holding her hostage in the Idumota area of Lagos.

The victim was held hostage after boarding a Volkswagen Vento salon car with registration number BDG 513 EJ heading to Iyana Oworo from Gerard Road, Ikoyi. 

Spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, told The Guardian, yesterday, that the victim was forcefully taken to Idumota. Read more
