The mangled body found on the international runway of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos on Thursday may be a stowaway who attempted to migrate out of the country through irregular means.
This is as our correspondent gathered that the Department of State Police (DSS), Nigeria Police and Aviation Security (AVSEC) have jointly taken over the investigation to unravel the course of his death and how the deceased gained entrance into that aspect of the airport.
A source close to the police confided in our correspondent on Friday that a search into the pockets of the deceased indicated that he had a mobile phone in his pocket as at the time of the incident.
However, a further search into the mobile phone showed that there was no Sim card in the phone, but it contained a memory card.
It was learnt that the deceased was crushed beyond recognition.
Our source said that the incident occurred Wednesday night, but the mangled body was discovered on Thursday morning.
But, the source debunked the claim that flights were diverted because of the incident.
”When I was there, there was no diversion of planes. It was just for a few minutes,” the source said.
When contacted, Mrs. Faithful Hope-Ivbase, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the phone.
She, however, said that a press statement would be sent out very soon to clarify the grey areas. (Independent)
