A follower of the Orogun Meji masquerade, identified simply as Olubukola, has been reportedly shot dead by an operative of the Amotekun Corps during a procession in Ikirun, Osun State.

The incident occurred on Monday, during a parade held to herald the performance of the masquerade as part of preparations for the Egungun Festival scheduled for the following day.

Eyewitnesses, who spoke to The PUNCH on condition of anonymity, said the deceased, a truck driver affiliated with the Eko-Ende Tipper Motor Park, was among those accompanying the masquerade during the procession when chaos broke out.

According to them, the Amotekun operative, said to have been hired by the Orogun Meji masquerade group to provide security, was reportedly engaged in a scuffle when some individuals allegedly attempted to wrestle his rifle from him. (Punch)
