Police arrest man for allegedly shooting friend after argument in Abuja (Channels)
The FCT Police Command has arrested 33-year-old Obinna Nwigwe, for allegedly shooting his friend, Andrew Philemon, during a heated argument at Najob Guest House in Bwari.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.
She described the incident as a disturbing case of violent crime.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on 26 December 2024, when police officers responded to a distress call about gunfire. Upon arriving at the scene, they found 29-year-old Philemon critically injured from a gunshot wound. Nwigwe, armed with a pump-action rifle, claimed the shooting was in self-defence after the argument escalated. Read more

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Tuesday, fixed January 8, 2025 for ruling on a bail application filed by the Founder and Chairman of Platform Capital Investment Partners Limited, Mr Akindele Akintoye.
Justice Emeka Nwite fixed the date after the defence counsel, Emmanuel Esedo, and Martha Babatunde, who appeared for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), argued their case for and against the bail application.
When the matter was called, Esedo informed the court that the matter was slated for a hearing of their application for bail and that, the anti-graft agency had been duly served with the application. Read more

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said the state would conduct local government elections in 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.
There has been confusion over the creation of the 37 LCDAs carved out of the existing 20 LGs in Lagos State.
Since the LCDAs are not recognised in the constitution, there has been speculation about whether the state would continue to conduct elections into the 37 LCDAs. Read more
