Suspected cultist killed during gun battle with police (Punch)
A suspected leader of a cult, Olamide Oloruntobi, has been shot dead by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command during a gun battle.
The 31-year-old, who allegedly terrorised residents of Cele Nizer, in the Ishashi area of Lagos State, was shot dead around 8.40pm on Tuesday.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said the command had been alerted that members of the Aiye cult were terrorising the area. Read more
Lawyer who allegedly forged court judgment to face prosecution (Punch)
The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke, on Tuesday vowed to prosecute Mr Edward Oseghale, a lawyer, who was nabbed by the police on the premises of the Surulere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging a court judgment.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Oseghale allegedly forged a judgment purportedly given by Mrs Toluwalase Abayomi, the magistrate of Court 4, Surulere Magistrates’ Court. Read more
Motorcyclist, passenger crushed by truck on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Punch)
A motorcyclist and his passenger were on Monday crushed to death in an accident involving a truck and a motorcycle on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer of Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta, said the incident happened close to a Connoil filling station on the highway.
Akinbiyi said that the accident, which occurred at about 6:20pm, was as a result of speed and loss of control on the part of the driver of the truck with registration number JJJ 472 XP. Read more

The Nigerian Police on Wednesday paraded a suspect, Augustus Akpan, 43 years who threatened to kidnap, rape and kill wife, daughters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar if he does not withdraw from 2019 presidential race.

Man, 22, docked for snatching lady’s handbag (Vanguard)
A 22-year-old man, Oyeniyi Olaotan, who allegedly snatched a female handbag containing one Tecno cell phone and N20,000 cash on Wednesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, however, granted the accused N50,000 bail, after he pleaded not guilty.
Sule-Amzat ordered the accused to provide two sureties as part of the bail conditions.
3 men docked for allegedly robbing woman at gunpoint (Nation)
Three suspected members of an unlawful society, who allegedly conspired to rob a woman of her handbag at gunpoint were on Wednesday remanded in Ikoyi Prisons in Lagos.
Chief Magistrate Peter Ojo gave the remand order at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. The accused, Femi Kazeem, 20; Segun Kazeem, 22; and Sodiq Ifekoya, 21; are facing a four-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, illegal possession of a pistol and cultism. Read More
Jubilation greets killing of notorious cultist, armed robber in Lagos (Leadership)
Wide jubilation erupted at Ishashi community area of Lagos State on Wednesday when a 31-year old notorious cultist and armed robber, Olamide Oloruntobi, was allegedly shot dead during exchange of gunfire with the police. LEADERSHIP gathered that the late notorious cultist, who was the leader of the dreaded Aiye confraternity in the area, met his Waterloo at Durosooto Street, Celenizer, New Mebamu, Ishashi, at about 20:40hrs, when the police were alerted that the group, led by the deceased were terrorising residents of the area. FUNAAB postgraduate student accuses Lagos host of rape (Punch)
A postgraduate student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has accused a man, Adesoji Orenowo, of raping her in his house at European Quarters, Meiran, Lagos.
Punch Metro gathered that the 24-year-old met Orenowo at a wedding ceremony in Ibadan, Oyo State, in December 2017.
The duo had reportedly exchanged telephone numbers and kept in touch through social media chats and calls.
The suspect was said to have invited the student, who resides in Abeokuta, to his house in Lagos.
It was gathered that Orenowo sent transport fare to the Osun State indigene.
The 35-year-old was alleged to have raped the victim during the encounter. Read more
