IG orders manhunt for Bayelsa police station attackers (Punch)
Following the attack on Agudama Ekpetiama Police station, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, by unknown gunmen on Monday, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered a manhunt for the perpetrators of the act. He also ordered the immediate deployment of crack detectives from the IGP Intelligence Response Unit, the Forensic and Homicide sections of the Force Criminal Investigation Department and the Marine Police Department in Yenagoa to complement the efforts of the state command in carrying out discrete investigation into the unfortunate incident. Tunisia president recovers, leaves hospital (Punch)
Tunisia’s 92-year-old President Beji Caid Essebsi, who was hospitalised last week in critical condition, returned home Monday after having recovered, his office said. “The head of state left the military hospital to his residence in Carthage after having received the necessary treatment and having recovered,” it said in a statement. Kenya flight ‘stowaway’ body found in Clapham garden (BBC)
A suspected stowaway who is believed to have fallen from the landing gear of a flight into Heathrow Airport has been found dead in a London garden. The body – believed to be that of a man – was found in Clapham just before 15:40 BST on Sunday. The individual is believed to have fallen from a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi, police said. A neighbour said the man fell a metre away from a resident who had been sunbathing in the garden. Read more

A killer will avoid jail after he pleaded not guilty by insanity because he believed his victim was a werewolf. Pankaj Bhasin, 34, was on trial for stabbing 65-year-old Bradford Jackson to death in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia in July 2018. On Monday, a judge accepted his plea of not guilty by insanity after a jury deadlocked at his murder trial earlier this year. Read more

A mother drowned her 12 year-old son a decade after she first attempted to murder him by submerging him in water, police say. Sherri Telnas, 45, reportedly drowned her son, Jackson Telnas, in an irrigation ditch in a corn field in Porterville, California on Saturday. Telnas allegedly tried to drown her seven year-old son as well, identified as Jacob Ray Telnas. Read more

Police firing tear gas have evicted protesters who stormed and ransacked Hong Kong’s parliament. Activists had occupied the Legislative Council (LegCo) building for hours after breaking away from a protest on the anniversary of Hong Kong’s transfer of sovereignty to China from Britain. Boy, 17, raped in church graveyard in ‘horrific ordeal’ (Metro)
A 17-year-old boy has been raped in a church graveyard in a ‘horrific ordeal’, police said. The teenager was walking through the town centre at around midnight when a stranger started talking to him. The pair were then walking through the graveyard, on Church Road, when the victim was punched in the stomach by the culprit, before being raped. The boy went to hospital and officers attended on June 22. Read more
Iran nuclear deal: Enriched uranium limit breached, IAEA confirms (BBC)
Iran has breached the limit on its stockpile of low-enriched uranium set under a 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, a watchdog has confirmed. The International Atomic Energy Agency said its inspectors had verified the 300kg (660lb) cap had been exceeded. Iran stepped up production of enriched uranium, used to make reactor fuel but also potentially nuclear bombs, in May. Read more

Atletico Madrid has agreed to turn Gelson Martins’ loan move to Monaco into a permanent transfer, the two clubs announced on Monday.
