The clashes took place in Tripoli’s city center after one of the capital’s strongest groups assaulted the base of a rival force, witnesses said, leading to hours of shooting that terrified locals and raised fears of a wider escalation.
The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) and a rival administration backed by the eastern-based parliament traded accusations over the clashes, with fears growing among many Libyans of a wider conflict over Libya’s political standoff.
Any clashes between powerful Tripoli groups risk drawing in other factions, and Saturday’s fighting has lasted longer than any other bout of violence in the city for months. Read more

Nintendo and Microsoft respond to PlayStation 5 price increase (DigitalSpy)
Sony announced this week that the PlayStation 5 console price would increase in most territories around the world, going up by £30 for the disc model and £40 for the disc-free version.
The tech giant has stated that this is down to inflation and the rising cost of… well, everything at the moment, but there has been a backlash, with people understandably annoyed that the company is passing the cost onto the consumer during a cost of living crisis.
This has led to a lot of speculation that Nintendo and Microsoft will follow suit and raise the prices of their competing systems. However, both companies have denied that will be the case.
Nintendo has “no plans to increase the trade price of its hardware”, the Switch-maker said in a statement to Eurogamer, while Xbox Series X|S manufacturer Microsoft told the same publication: “We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options [but] Xbox Series S suggested retail price remains from £249.99 and the Xbox Series X is from £449.99.” Read more

I can’t wait to play against Liverpool — Awoniyi (Guardian)
Nottingham Forest forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, has said he’ll be ‘very excited’ to line up against his former side, Liverpool, when the two sides face each other in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years next month, reports liverpoolecho.co.uk.
Awoniyi spent six years at Liverpool between 2015 and 2021, but his career at Anfield was largely spent out on loan, as he was unable to gain a work permit after he signed for the Reds from Imperial Soccer Academy for a fee of £400,000.
Despite receiving a work permit last year after a fruitful spell in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin, the Nigerian departed Liverpool to join the German outfit on a full-time basis, with the Reds banking £6.5 million for a player, who never kicked a ball for their first-team.
However, after an eye-catching 2021/22 season in the German top-flight, where he bagged 15 goals in 31 appearances, Awoniyi sealed a move to free-spending Nottingham Forest for £17.5 million, which capped a remarkable couple of years for the striker. Read more
Erik ten Hag gets 2nd Premier League win as Bruno Fernandes fires Man United past Southampton (IrishIndependent)

Bellotti books Roma medical with Afena-Gyan for Cremonese (FootballItalia)
Andrea Belotti is expected to have his Roma medical tomorrow, as Felix Afena-Gyan has his tests for the permanent transfer to Cremonese this weekend.
Belotti has been a free agent since his contract with Torino expired on June 30 and turned down various other more lucrative proposals, including from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Monza and Galatasaray, because he was waiting for Roma.
Before they were able to sign Il Gallo, the Giallorossi first needed to sell one of their current crop of strikers, a process that took far longer than expected because negotiations with both Bologna and Torino for Eldor Shomurodov broke down.
Instead, Afena-Gyan agreed a move to newly-promoted Cremonese in a deal reportedly worth €6m plus another €2m in bonuses. Read more
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc branded a ‘B+’ driver after Spa practice crash (PlanetF1)
After a spin in FP3 at the Belgian Grand Prix, Sky F1 commentator David Croft says these errors are making Charles Leclerc a “B+” driver.
A spin late in FP3 ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix saw Leclerc find the barrier at Turn 11, an incident not too costly in terms of damage, but concerning in the wider context.
Although only breaking a front-wing endplate as Leclerc escaped the gravel and returned to the pits, this was another unforced error in what has been a frustrating season for Leclerc.
Ferrari have very much played their part in Leclerc’s 80-point deficit to Championship leader Max Verstappen, but Leclerc too is not without blame, most notably having crashed out of the lead of the French Grand Prix, a disaster all of his own making. Read more
