A Nigerian man has tested positive for monkeypox in Delhi, the Indian capital.
His case brought the total number of infected people in the Asian country to six.
According to Indian officials, the 35-year-old is a Delhi resident and has no recent international travel history.
The Nation learnt that he is the second person in Delhi to test positive for the infection.
The unnamed Nigerian has been admitted to the Lok Nayak Jaiprakash Hospital run by the government of Delhi.
He had been suffering from blisters and a fever for the past five days and his samples were sent to the Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV).
It was learnt that the report which arrived Monday evening confirmed he was positive.
It was further learnt that two suspected monkey pox patients of African origin have also been admitted to the LNJP Hospital.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared the monkeypox virus a global health emergency.
On Monday, it was reported that a 40-year-old patient on admission at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, (LASUTH) tested positive for the Monkeypox virus.
The unnamed patient was said to be a road traffic accident victim who has been on admission in the Bola Tinubu, BT, Orthopaedics ward of the hospital since 26th of June, 2022.
The patient reportedly developed a facial rash that was similar to one of the symptoms of Monkeypox.
It was gathered that the orthopaedics unit of the hospital has shut down. (Nation)
