A Magistrates’ Court, Zuba, Abuja, on Thursday, sentenced a 27-year-old motorcyclist, Suleiman Lawali to one year imprisonment for theft.
Lawali who was convicted and sentenced for criminal breach of trust and theft begged the court for mercy.
The Magistrate, Abdullaziz Ismail, also ordered Lawali to pay the complainant, Yahuza Abbas a compensation of N400,000.
He, however, warned him to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.
Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant reported the matter at Zuba Police Station on Sept.27.
Ogada said that the complainant gave Lawali a Bajaj Motorcycle valued N600, 000 for commercial purpose to remit N10,000 to him, sometime in July.
The prosecution said that Lawali absconded with the motorcycle, sold it at N490, 000 and converted the money to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
