Music teacher bags life jail for raping 9-year-old pupil
Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old music teacher and counsellor of Lachez O International School, Anthony Okeh, to life imprisonment for defiling a nine-year-old JSS 1 student (name withheld).
The judge in her judgment held that the prosecution was able to discharge the burden of proof of the charge of defilement against Okeh.
She said that Okeh was a “pathological liar”, “everything a teacher should not be” by having unlawful sexual intercourse with his pupil and “a soulless man without any iota of shame.” (Punch)
NDLEA intercepts drugs hidden in Plantain Chips package (Channels)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says its operatives have intercepted a shipment of drugs concealed within packages labelled as plantain chips at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, disclosed this on Sunday in a short statement.
“Narco-trend update: This consignment was packaged as plantain chips, but inside was a skunk, as discovered by vigilant #ndlea_nigeria officers in one of their latest seizures at Lagos airport,” he posted on X.
Babafemi admonished Nigerians to exercise vigilance when accepting packages for travel.

The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), revealed the figures on Monday during the ministerial press briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja, to mark the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
Citing statistics from the Lagos State Criminal Information System (LCIS), the Attorney-General said the data highlights growing concerns about public safety and criminal activity in key urban centres of the state. (Read more)

The operation, led by Taskforce Chairman CSP Adetayo Akerele, focused on notorious black spots and illegal settlements identified through intelligence reports and public complaints.

Police Arrest 2 For Mile 12 Murder In Lagos (TVC)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two key suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a young woman from Nasarawa State, who was killed and set ablaze on 24 May in the Gangare slum near the canal behind Mile 12 Market.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police confirmed the arrests and assured the public of a discreet and thorough investigation to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
The statement clarified that contrary to circulating rumours, the deceased was not of Yoruba origin but hailed from Nasarawa State. She had been living in the slum with relatives from Northern Nigeria, though her occupation remains unknown. (Read more)
Court remands man over reckless waste disposal on Alapere Bridge in Lagos (Guardian)
A joint enforcement team, comprising officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC/KAI), has arrested Mr Ogunbadejo Olawale, a resident of No. 25 Ajiboye Street, Alapere, Ketu, who was caught in a viral video dumping waste on the Alapere Link Bridge, Ketu.
He has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility by the Environmental and Special Offences Court, sitting in Oshodi, with the case adjourned to June 26, 2025.
