A young Muslim woman says she was left feeling shocked and degraded after being told to ‘speak English’ on a train, despite speaking in English.
Amina Atiq 24, says she felt deliberately targeted as a ‘visible Muslim woman’ after a friendly chat between two men took a turn as one of them began saying ‘there are no activists in Saudi Arabia’ upon learning she was writer.
Amina says the incident happened after she boarded a London to Liverpool Virgin train at ‘around 8pm’ on Sunday evening.
With a packed train, she decided to stand between carriages, and was approached by ‘two middle aged white men’ who began asking her what she had been up to in London. Read more
