A businesswoman, Mrs Halima Damina, on Friday dragged her husband, Jacob, before a Customary Court in Jikwoyi, FCT, accusing him of throwing her out of their matrimonial home.
She said this in a divorce petition she filed against him in the court.

NAFDAC probes ‘poisonous’ plantain chips allegation (Punch)
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control says it is investigating a viral social media post alleging a woman fried plantain chips using oil adulterated with polythene.
In a statement on Saturday by NAFDAC’s Resident Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola, the agency said it was taking a science-based approach to verifying the claim before taking any action.

The Rivers State Police Command have arrested and detained some of her officers for allegedly extorting $3,000 from a Port Harcourt resident.

NSCDC boss cautions personnel against mismanagement of weapons (Guardian)
Dr Ahmed Audi, Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Saturday in Abuja charged its armourers and commanders to effectively manage weapons in their possession.
He gave the charge at a meeting with NSCDC’s armourers and unit commanders from various formations of the corps.
Audi warned that NSCDC management would not hesitate to deal decisively with any personnel caught in the act of mismanaging arms and ammunitions. Read more

Okada rider, banker die in Kogi auto crash (Leadership)
Two persons, a commercial motorcyclist and a female banker, lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident along Ogori–Magongo road in Kogi State, an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said on Friday.
The incident, which occurred around 2pm on Thursday, involved the commercial motorcyclist and a Toyota Venza car.
LEADERSHIP gathered that one of the victims succumbed immediately to the accident, while the other, a female, was initially unconscious and later died at Ogori General Hospital due to severe injuries. Read more

The Federal Government has joined forces with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to give more people access to social safety nets in Nigeria.
The Spokeperson for the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr Olajide Oshundun disclosed this in a statement at the weekend.
Oshundun quoted the the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr. At least 13 students killed in China school fire: State media (AlJazeera)
A fire has ripped through a dormitory in a boarding school in central China, killing 13 students, state media reported.
One student was injured in the blaze at Yingcai School in Henan province’s Yanshanpu village, the Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.
The victims were identified as third-grade elementary school students. A teacher told the state-run Hebei Daily that all of them were from the same class of nine and 10 year olds. Read more

A 17-year-old Marvel star and “Dancing With the Stars” performer, Xochitl Gomez, spoke out about finding nonconsensual sexually explicit deepfakes with her face on social media and not being able to get the material taken down.
During a Jan. 10 episode of “The Squeeze,” a podcast hosted by actor Taylor Lautner and his wife, Taylor Lautner, Gomez said she saw sexually explicit deepfakes of her on Twitter (now called X). Gomez, who plays America Chavez in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” said she asked her mother about the material and learned that her team had already tried and failed to get it removed.
“It made me weirded out and I didn’t like it and I wanted it taken down. That was my main thought process was, ‘Down. Take this down. Please,’” Gomez said during the podcast. “It wasn’t because I felt like it was invading my privacy, more just like it wasn’t a good look for me. This has nothing to do with me. Six Catholic nuns and other travelers were kidnapped from a bus Friday in Haiti’s capital.
The Roman Catholic archbishop of Port-au-Prince confirmed the kidnapping to the Miami Herald. The nuns were members of the congregation of St. Anne in Port-au-Prince. The incident occurred Friday morning near Avenue Christopher.
President P. Morachel Bonhomme of the Catholic Church-affiliated group Haitian Conference of the Religious in a statement asked Haitians to pray for the safe return of the hostages and mourned “too many kidnappings” filling people’s souls with “sadness and fear.” Read more

Prema Racing has announced that it has signed Ferrari Driver Academy member Maya Weug to its three-driver squad that will contest this year’s all-female F1 Academy.
Weug, a Spanish-Belgian-Dutch national, has a strong karting background, having won the 2016 WSK Final Cup. She also made history by becoming the first woman to win the FIA Girls on Track – Rising Stars programme, which helped her secure a place in the Ferrari Driver Academy.
