Naby Keita given all clear to leave hospital after injury in Liverpool’s defeat to Napoli

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has left hospital after being given the all clear by doctors and has not been ruled out of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The Guinean was picked to start against Napoli on Wednesday evening but fell to the ground clutching his back and was replaced by Jordan Henderson in the 19th minute.

He was treated briefly by the club’s medical team before being stretchered off, and was taken to a hospital in Naples for further tests.

There were fears Keita had suffered a serious, long-term injury, but the Mirror report that he has been discharged from hospital and will fly back to England with the rest of the Liverpool squad.

He will undergo further check-ups by the club’s medical team when he returns to Melwood, and could yet play at the weekend.

If Keita is no longer suffering back pains, the club’s physios are expected to let him return to training in preparation for the visit of Man City.

The 23-year-old did not start the match against Napoli particularly well, and the whole side struggled as the Italian side recorded an important victory thanks to a last-gasp goal from Lorenzo Insigne. Read more
