Natasha: Appeal Court strikes out Akpabio’s motions, awards N100k fine (Vanguard)
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has struck out two interlocutory motions the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, brought before it in the case challenging the six-month suspension that was handed to the lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel led by Justice Hamman Barka, struck out the motions after they were withdrawn, even as it awarded N100,000 cost against the Appellant.
In the ruling delivered on May 21, with the enrolled order sighted by Vanguard on Wednesday, the motions the court struck out were dated March 3 and March 25, 2025, and marked CV/395/M1/2025 and CV/395/M2/2025, respectively. Read more

President Bola Tinubu says he will welcome Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) whenever he chooses to join officially.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 and other infrastructure in the Katampe District of Abuja, President Tinubu commended Wike’s contribution to governance and light-heartedly referenced the minister’s signature tune from his previous political rallies.
“We have somebody—Nyesom Wike—he is not a member of my party (APC), not yet.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened on May 28.

June 12: FG cancels Democracy Day parade (Tribune)
The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the scheduled military parade to commemorate the 26th Democracy Day, on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
The details of activities marking the Democracy Day released on Wednesday by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Democracy Day celebration, indicated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would deliver a nationwide address at 7am on Thursday.
President Tinubu would instead participate in a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12 noon on Thursday.
A statement to this effect was released by Abdulhakeem Adeoye, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, on Wednesday in Abuja. Read more
ngCERT alerts Nigerians to new Android malware targeting WhatsApp and banking apps (Nairametrics)
The Nigeria Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT) has issued a high-alert warning over a new wave of sophisticated cyberattacks targeting Android devices through a malware campaign dubbed Tria Stealer.
The malicious software, described as highly evasive, is being used to hijack WhatsApp and Telegram accounts, intercept One-Time Passwords (OTPs), and steal sensitive personal and financial data.
According to ngCERT, Tria Stealer is being spread via fake wedding or event invitations shared through messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. Read more
Alleged $1b fraud: Court to rule on detained CBEX operators’ bail June 30 (Guardian)
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned the bail application filed by three detained promoters of Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) in the alleged over one billion dollars fraud until June 30 for ruling.
Justice Emeka Nwite fixed the date after counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Fadila Yusuf, and the defence lawyers adopted their processes and argued their case for and against the application.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Nwite had, on April 24, gave the EFCC the go-ahead to arrest and detain six operators of CBEX over their involvement in the fraud. Read more

Sting has accused successive governments of “wilfully” neglecting the north-east of England as he announced a donation to a major Tyneside art institution.

Chris Newman, who represents Abrego Garcia’s family, told CBS News’ Major Garrett in an interview that he does not see the case as a referendum on immigration, but as a potential turning point in the erosion of due process rights in the US.

28 years after, Nigeria to host African Athletics Championships (Guardian)
Twenty-eight years after the city of Ibadan, Oyo State hosted the Third African U-20 Athletics Championships, the country is set to host the biennial competitions once again. This time, Nigeria will host the combined U-18/U-20 Championships from July 16 to 20, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In the 1997 event in Ibadan, Nigerian athletes dominated the championships, topping the medals table with a total of 39 medals, comprising 13 gold, 11 silver,, and 15 bronze medals, ahead of Algeria (seven gold, six silver, and five bronze). Kenya, South Africa, and Ghana were in third, fourth, and fifth positions respectively.
While the U-20 event, which first began in 1994 in Algiers, Algeria was for athletes aged 19 or under, the U-18 Championships was established in 2013 for athletes aged 15 to 17. Read more

The organisers of the Victor Ikpeba Football Challenge have confirmed that the final match for the ongoing 2025 edition will be played on the original stated date of Thursday, June 12.
