The suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Udaughan, and the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Karimi, traded words on Sunday.

In a statement on Sunday, Karimi, an All Progressives Congress lawmaker, had justified Natasha’s suspension from the Senate, describing the incident leading to her suspension as embarrassing.

Rivers: Soyinka faults Fubara’s suspension (Sun)

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has broken his silence on President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, noting that the action betrays the spirit of federalism.

Tuesday last week, President Tinubu declared emergency rule in the state and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu and all members of the Rivers assembly for an initial period of six months.

A one-storey building in the Alapere area of Lagos State was yesterday engulfed in fire. The fire engulfed the upper floor of the one-storey building, made up of four units of room self-contained apartments. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the ground floor of the building.

The outbreak, which occurred at 16B Agidi Road, Osogun Bus Stop, Alapere, Lagos, started from one of the kitchens of the flats due to an electrical power surge.

It was gathered that the surge caused the fire to spread rapidly to other parts of the apartment, resulting in significant damage to the other apartments. Read more 

Filling station on fire as fuel tanker explodes in Niger (DailyTrust)

A fuel laden tanker has gone up in flames at A.A Rano filling station located at Hannun Riga, near General Hospital, Kontagora, headquarters of Kontagora Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

The filling station is also few meters from ‘B’ Division of the Nigeria Police, Kontagora.

Sources said the incident occurred while Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, was being offloaded from the tanker, around 7pm, on Sunday. Read more

Following the communal clashes between Ifon and Ilobu communities over land dispute and imposition of 24- hour curfew by Governor Ademola Adeleke, there was uneasy calm in the two local government areas of Osun State yesterday.

The Nation recalls that the communal clash, which later spread to Erin-Osun, claimed three lives. Thirty people sustained gunshot injuries, as over 100,000 people were displaced, while over N2billion worth of property were destroyed.

Findings by The Nation yesterday revealed that Governor Adeleke at the meeting held with the traditional rulers of the two communities, Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye and Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, threatened to hand over dethronement letters to them if the clashes continue. Police secure release of abducted Anambra Rev Fr after fierce battle with gunmen (Vanguard)

The Anambra State Police command has secured the release of a Catholic priest, Rev Fr Stephen Echezona who was abducted at Ichida, Anaocha local government area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the priest was released unhurt after an encounter with his abductors at Ihiala.

In a statement in Awka, the PPRO said: “In the early hours of today, March 23rd, 2025, a joint security team comprising the Police, Military, Civil Defence, AVG Ichida, and Ihiala respectively, secured the release of Rev. Father Stephen Echezona at Ihiala. The priest was returned unharmed. Read more

Peebles began working as a club DJ in the 1960s before joining local station Piccadilly Radio in Manchester.
