The Nigerian Basketball Federation has honoured late singer, Sound Sultan, by dedicating the wins recorded by D’Tigers against the United States and Argentina to him.
Sound Sultan’s death was announced by his family on July 11 in a statement which revealed that the singer died after battling Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.
This was on the same day D’Tigers defeated the United States in an exhibition game ahead of Tokyo Olympics.
The team also defeated Argentina who are ranked fourth-best team in the world in another exhibition game played on July 12.
Shortly after the games, NBBF took to social media to honour Sound Sultan who was passionate about basketball and did his best to support the sport.
“We dedicate the victories against US & Argentina to late Olanrewaju Fasasi (@Soundsultan). You saw this day coming when Nigeria would become a dominant force in global basketball. Ironically, the day we won against @usabasketball, that was when you gave up the ghost. RIP,” NBBF tweeted. (Punch)
