Nigeria’s confirmed coronavirus infections have hit 39,539 as a result of an additional of 591 new cases, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said.
The agency, which made the announcement via its twitter handle Friday night, also provided the total number of deaths from the virus in the country as 845, while the number of recoveries has increased to 16,559.
Oyo State took the lead this time with 191 new cases, followed by Lagos with 168, FCT-61, Ondo-29, Osun-26, Ebonyi-24, Edo-23,, Ogun-14, Rivers-13, Akwa Ibom-12 and Kaduna-10.
Others are Katsina-6, Borno-4, Ekiti-3, Delta-3, Imo-3 and Niger-1.
As of July 24, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on African the continent stood at 16,697. There are 787,501 confirmed cases and 446,082 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reported a record increase in global coronavirus cases, with the total rising by 284,196 in the past 24 hours.
Some 15.7 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19, while more than 638,000 have died, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University. More than 8.98 million people have recovered.
